An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
My
Thoughts:
As usual with the Mercy Thompson series, I was glued to the
pages. I detested Christy (Adam's ex-wife and master manipulator) and I dreaded
her bit in the story. The saving grace was that Adam staunchly supported Mercy,
and they were a united front. I do wonder why the heck he let Christy answer
his phone so many times, though! The action and plot were fast paced and
distracted me from Christy enough to enjoy the story. Mercy shined the whole
way through, but I wouldn't have minded if she was a tad more petty and mean to
the ex-bitch, but that would've given power to Christy's attempts to undermine
Mercy's standing with both Adam and the pack. I marvel at Mercy's people skills
and ability to think things through. Love that she's a total badass, too!
This series is just pure awesomesauce, and Lorelei King’s narration completely enhances the experience! A total recommend!

SQUEE!! Loved this story. Hated Christy. I wanted to smack the entire pack into submission and tell them to wake up when it came to that manipulative chick. Sheesh.
This is yet another series that I MUST get to, Rachel! I'm glad this series is still going so strong for you!
Lovely review!
I haven't been into reading for a few months and your review made me yearn for some Mercy Thompson. I'll have to look this one up at Audible. Thanks for sharing, Rachel!
I stopped after the first few books and I need to get back to this series. I had no idea how long it would run for, or how many people loved it... Now I feel like I'm missing out. Appreciate your thoughts on this volume - they reminded me to get back on track here ;)
I didn't know Lorelie King narrated these. I am now two books behind on the series, and I need to catch up. I will see if my library has the audios.
Sigh. I'm going to dig out my copies of this book and persevere to catch up.
I skimmed your review a bit for this one as it's a series, I don't know what rock I've been living under because I haven't heard of this :( I'm glad you could love it, wonderful mini review.<3 Benish | Feminist Reflections
I NEED TO READ THIS AUTHOR! I've heard so much about this and the Alpha & Omega series. This plot line freaks me out, honestly, but I'm happy to hear these two stick together and don't waver! Great pointed review!
So many bloggers lately have been reading this series and only now have they been brought to my attention. I really need a great fantasy series and this seems to be the one. Great mini review! :)
Wonderful to hear that you are still enjoying this series, I will have to give it a read soon
I love the Alpha & Omega series so much, so I definitely need to give this one a go. I just hate being so many books behind, and the sticky love triangle in the first couple of books. :P
I don't think I'd be a fan of Christy either, but I'm glad the rest was great for you!
Wow! This seems like a hot series. Not exactly my kind of read, but so good to see that you enjoyed it a lot. Great review, Rachel!

Glad to hear that this series keep amazing you. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past through the first book. I'm a big fan of this genre, but the story just failed to win me over. :/
