Taylor’s family might not be the closest-knit – everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled – but for the most part, they get along fine. Then they get news that changes everything: Her father has pancreatic cancer, and it’s stage four – meaning that there is basically nothing to be done. Her parents decide that the family will spend his last months together at their old summerhouse in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former summer best friend is suddenly around, as is her first boyfriend. . . and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses, the Edwards become more of a family, and closer than they’ve ever been before. But all of them very aware that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance – with family, with friends, and with love.

My thoughts
I absolutely fell in love with Morgan Matson's debut novel; Amy and Roger's Epic Detour. Since I heard about her second novel I've been endlessly searching for titbits of information. And already I can say the blurb doesn't disappoint. It has the essence of aching that was in Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, its sounds like it will be a heartbreakingly beautiful read and I think I will have to keep my tissues at the ready with this one.

On a side note, I much prefer the cover of the hardcover (above) to the cover of the paperback (below).

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my pick for the week and what you’re waiting on.

I love the books you pick each week, Jasprit! This has been on my to-read list, mostly because of the cover and I totally agree, the original cover is MUCH better!

Wow, I think it's amazing how different the booktitle *feels* just because of the different covers. :O

Really excited about it, too!

I can tell that we're both really looking forward to summer right now, J! ;) I just love the whole feel of this book -- it sounds so sweet and daring and adorable and touching, and adding that to the beachy cover, it sounds like my perfect summer read :) I'm usually sensitive with books that mention cancer because I know a lot of people who have it, but I actually love reading about it -- they make me want to hug my own heart!

Before I get all sentimental on you LOL, this was an AWESOME pick for your WOW this week, Jasprit! This is on my wish list right next to Amy and Roger's Epic Detour for sure! ;) <3

The hardback cover is a lot prettier, and seeing as though I am shallow like that, I would probably buy the hardback. ;) This sounds like a great read! Nice pick, Jasprit.

Fantastic pick Jasprit, this sounds so good! I love that the focus is on family for the most part, that's usually an element that's missing in a lot of YA books. Definitely putting this one on the list:)

Thanks for sharing I have this author's first book on my list for awhile. I hope this one ends up being just as good. I agree, the cover on the hardback is much nicer. Yikes it is almost May already, not long to wait! Happy Wednesday, Jasprit.

I knew I'd find a vanilla here! You and Rachel can fight for the crown! I haven't read Amy and Roger, but Lisa did and reviewed it for the blog a while ago.
Ooops, I really like the paperback cover better. :D

Did I hear something about a vanilla? I guess Maja wants us to share the crown, Jasprit. You can be the vanilla-queen this week, I'll take the title back next week. Just please don't lose the tiara. :)

I read and loved Amy and Roger, too, Jasprit. I've been looking forward to Second Chance Summer as well. I'm with you, I like the hardback cover better. No offense, Maja! ;)

I don't mind sharing the vanilla queen crown with you Rachel and I promise to take good care of it! I hope we enjoy this one as much as Amy and Roger's epic detour! :)

Thanks Heidi, I've been a bit sneaky lately all my wows have been books that are going to come out soon, as you can probably tell I'm a really impatient person I don't think I could deal with posting a wow of a book coming out months later it would be taunting me for ages!! :)
