Title: Something About You
Author: Julie James
Publisher: Berkley
Publication date: 2nd March 2010
My rating: 4 stars
Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends with a death. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago- and for nearly ruining his career.
Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it's no joke; the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes- and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension.
With my last couple of books I found myself reading just for the sake of reading; however this was not the case with Something About You. I found it ridiculously hard to put my book down that without realising I’d devoured this book in just one day.
On her
first relaxing weekend away in a long time Cameron finds herself caught up in a
murder investigation. Her hotel room being next door to where the murder took
place she ends up being the only witness that can clear the person being set up.
Not only is her whole weekend ruined; she has to remain in her room until
further questioning and she’s not allowed to make contact with anyone until
she’s done so. To make matters even worse the man leading the FBI investigation
is none other than Jack Pallas. Cameron and Jack have had a rocky relationship;
with Jack still holding a grudge for Cameron ruining his chances of bringing
down a major drug lord, and also nearly wrecking his career, Cameron isn’t too
happy about Jack being back either, he made a complete fool out of her on
national television. But as she’s the only witness, there is no choice but for
both of them to bite their tongues and to work in co-operation with one
another.
I
loved the love/hate relationship between Jack and Cameron, when they weren’t sniping
at each other the sexual tension between them you could cut with a knife. Jack
where shall I start with him? I’ve always had a thing with cops/ FBI agents or
any type of law enforcement officers, especially hot ones like Jack.
and dark facial scruff, he looked like the
kind
of guy that women and men should
avoid
in dark alleys”
I
loved his over protectiveness, his charm, the ruggedness about him, the way he
took charge and especially his glowering looks that he threw. I also adored the
banter between him and his partner Wilkins, how Wilkins was always clued up on
what Jack was thinking, and knew what would get Jack riled up.
In a
lot of ways this book reminded me of Meg Cabot’s Heather Wells series; it had
the similar humour, romance and mystery about it. However the reason for not
giving this book 5 stars is because I didn’t like the fact that we found out
who the killer was so early on in the book (we were treated to a pov from them).
I think I would have rather preferred having the suspense of guessing who it
could have been and then discovering it at the end.
Overall
however I thoroughly enjoyed Something About You, I will certainly be picking
up more books by Julie James as soon as possible as she certainly knows how to
create a gripping read full with scrumptious characters.
This counts as book 2 of my 100+ to read list. You can check out my list here.

I read this book last year I think and I liked it as much as you did too. I agree that Jack was pretty hot ! ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't quite remember the murder mystery, but I must have been annoyed by knowing how the murderers were early on.
Glad you liked the book, Jasprit ! :)
I'm glad you enjoyed this! Jack sounds quite appealing. There's just something about cop/agent-type characters that always makes them instantly hot. ;) I will have to give this a shot one day! Great review, Jasprit. :)
ReplyDeleteEEEEE Jasprit! While I haven't read many adult books, I've heard of Julie James' books and apparently they're really good! I love love/hate relationship and Jack and Cameron's relationship sounds AMAZING. But I do agree that I don't like finding out the killer so early in the book!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, awesome review, Jasprit! ♥ Glad you enjoyed it :)
Oh wow this sounds really up my alley! I secretly love love/hate relationships haha. And murder mysteries are my fav! Plus I'm in need of an adult book soon before I start pulling my hair out!! Great review Jasprit!
ReplyDeleteWow this seems totally awesome, J! I really must get my hands on it soon! Love/Hate relationships are awesome and so different. Plus, jack seems like a real book hottie! ;) Although, this is an adult book so I don't really know if it'll be suitable for me, being only 15... DARN IT! Great review, sweetie!! <333
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't read many adult books, but maybe I should pick this up while I'm waiting for a new release in another adult series. I love the idea of a love/hate relationship, it makes the book so much more fun! ;) It's a shame about the lack of suspense, though. Gorgeous review, J! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah Jasprit! I really enjoyed this book too! I read it a while back so I don't remember all the little details of it, but I remember loving that tension you mentioned between Jack and Cameron:) And what's not to love about a sexy FBI agent? *drools* It's so nice to read some adult books like this in between all the YA, sometimes I need a break from the love triangles and the angst, even though I adore YA fiction:)
ReplyDeleteI really like the premise of this. I love these kind of shows on tv but have never actually read a crime book. While I can appreciate you wanting the suspense of the "who did it?", I think it would be interesting to read a POV from the killer. Great review Jaspirit :)
ReplyDeleteReading for the sake of reading seems to be a common disease these days. I guess the summer is getting to us all. But this sounds like a perfect summer read: humor, mystery, romance... sign me up. I think I need to read a book for actual adults soon or my brain will implode.
ReplyDeleteWonderful review Jasprit!!!! Gosh, jack sounds like my ideal male character. I always have been interested in intelligent FBI agent characters. And a good mystery despite the early revelation? I will def pick up this book sometime!
ReplyDeleteI've heard so much about this book so I'm glad you enjoyed it Jasprit! It sounds fun, sassy, mysterious, and romantic all at the same time, so I'll definitely have to get my hands on it sometime! ;) Fantastic review! :D

YAY! I'm so happy you finally broke through your "reading just for the sake of reading" streak -- I always hate finding books you have to force yourself to finish :) This just sounds seriously fun and I love it when you can get so absorbed in a book that you don't want to put it down! And a love/hate relationship? A hot cop? I think I might be in love! :')
ReplyDeleteAmazing review, J! The next time I'm in one of those slumps, I'll definitely think of this book! ;) <3
Lovely review, Jasprit! I've never heard of 'Something About You' before, but it sure does sound like a fun, engrossing read! I'm not sure if I would read this because crime thrillers/mysteries aren't my cup of tea, although Jack sounds like a sexy guy. :D
ReplyDeleteLove-hate relationships can be so fun to read about, especially when well written and it sounds like these are.
ReplyDeleteThanks for review.
