Top Ten Tuesday #7

Is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where each week they post a new top ten list and ask fellow bloggers to share their lists on that topic.

Today's top ten topic is: Top Ten books I read in 2012.

2012 was a fantastic reading year for me I finally got around to reading several books I had been meaning to read for ages and discovered some great books by brilliant authors. This post was extremely difficult for me to narrow down to just 10 books; I’m sure after compiling this list I would have thought of several more to add!

From what I Remember, Bittersweet and Size 12 and Ready to Rock were my three favourite contemporary reads of the year. Bittersweet was full of delicious cupcake descriptions at the beginning of each chapter, here’s a little taster:

“Vanilla cupcakes with crushed chocolate cookie crumbs
topped with bailey’s cream cheese frosting
and a light dusting of cocoa powder”

And it was a super sweet story. From What I Remember was a fantastic story about two kids that never got along getting stuck in Mexico and their friends coming to save them. I adore my road trip books and this was definitely full of endless fun and adventure. Meg Cabot’s Heather Wells series just keeps getting better and better, Size 12 and Ready to Rock had me in hysterics, I love being back with these set of characters again, I don’t know what I’m going to do when this series ends next year *sobs*

Everyone I knew had been tweeting about Gone Girl and how it was a traumatising reading experience. I really needed to know what the fuss was about. And I’m glad I decided to give it a go because despite being a compete wreck afterwards I seem to love books which keep you reeling for days and weeks afterwards. Gone Girl seriously messes with your mind, but is so worth it.

Shatter Me, Throne of Glass and This is not a Test are not typically the type of books that I would pick up. But boy they took me by surprise. All three were so out of my comfort zone, but I just couldn’t part with them until I’d devoured every single page.

Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series I wasn’t a huge fan of, so I went into The Immortal Rules with a bit of trepidation, also I hadn’t really enjoyed my paranormal reads as of late, but honestly this book just blew me away. It definitely re-ignited that spark and passion I’d had for paranormal books.

I compiled my list of top ten books for the year a few weeks ago but couldn’t end this list without mentioning these brilliant books I read recently.

As you can see I kind of cheated a bit with today’s top ten list, but 2012 was full of too many epic books. Which books would have made it to your list?

  1. While I absolutely positively LOVED Bittersweet, The Off Season, Shadows, Divergent, and This is Not a Test, I actually don't think ANY of them would have made my list of favorites for the year! O.O Throne of Glass, From What I Remember..., Flawed, Hunting Lila, and Shatter Me were all novels that didn't quite work for me this year, but I am SO glad to see all these on your list, Jasprit! I know they resonated with so many of my other friends and I wish they had done so for me too! :) I participated in a Book Survey for 2012, so my list of answers to that should go up next week, so you can see all my favorites then! ;)

  2. The Off Season, yay! This Is Not a Test was absolutely brilliant and an emotionally raw experience, and Divergent was fuuuuuuun. :) Throne of Glass and The Immortal Rules weren't for me, but I really have to get my hands on Shadows! I don't really like angel books, but I've heard phenomenal things about that one. Amazing list, darling!

I''m glad you enjoyed IMR more then you thought you would, the world building in that book is spectacular!

I absolutely have to read Gone Girl as soon as possible. I've been avoiding it mostly because I'm too much of a coward to read it, but I really should grow a spine already. :))

  19. Love just about everything Meg Cabot writes! I just finished up the Princess Diaries series (though I do have to say...I was disappointed at the fact that we got 4 books for Mia's freshman year and ONE for most of her junior and all of her senior year. What?), and I love her Heather Wells books. I leant the first one to my mother in law and she hasn't returned it yet...*grumble*

  21. Everyone is talking about Gone Girl. Is it really that good? I missed the pre-order and I never got it after that.

Shatter Me! Be still my Warner loving heart. I can't wait for Unravel Me. I liked Throne of Glass,This is Not A Test and The Immortal Rules. Flawed didn't catch my attention. It was missing something, don't know what exactly.

  22. I enjoyed your list. I have read many of the titles up there and a few are still on my wish list like the Dairy Queen series and Shatter Me. I know what you mean about Gone Girl. It still sticks in my head after six months. It was a wicked good read and I loved it!

  27. Obsessed with Shatter Me. Warner, le sigh. Totally surprised at how much I loved his character. And I need to read Throne of Glass. I heard it had a Cinderella vibe to it (a fave fairy tale of mine).

    Awesome choices! :)

  29. Isn't it really depressing that I've only read TWO out of those "ten" books? ;) I am such a bad blogger. I still REALLY need to read Flawed, Shatter Me, and The Immortal rules. Hopefully I'll be able to get those books read in 2013! Great list! :)
