Author Event Recap & Giveaway: Dark Days Winter 2013

Hello lovelies!  Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Southern California tour stop for The Dark Days Winter 2013Held at the Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach. The line up was like the dream team of authors: Tahereh Mafi, Veronica Rossi, Cynthia Hand and Brodi Ashton.  Be sure to scroll down to enter our Mega Giveaway: Signed Copies of their newest releases.

My usual partner in crime these days, Arlene @WinterHaven books met me and we fan-girled away over meeting our equivalent to rocks stars: WRITERS!

The amazing Veronica Rossi
Veronica Rossi talked about how her series is made of up opposites: male and female protagonists, advanced and primitive societies, and their race to survive.  When asked about how Roar will be in the next book she said "Everything that he's hinged and based his life on has changed, and so the third book is about him dealing with that and finding a new reason for living." I had theories about Roar and what happened, but after that statement, I wonder if I should hold out hope?!   Veronica said she was emotional over writing the third book but she feels like that was a really good sign, those were the days she really felt like she was on the right track.

The always entertaining Tahereh

Tahereh Mafi as always was a laugh.  She says she likes the "pants-optional" lifestyle writing affords her! She really loves writing Warner and she wonders what that says about her, to love writing the "villain" so much. She thinks it's important to write a villain that isn't too easy to hate.  I asked Tahereh whether she was Team Warner or Team Adam and she wouldn't tell!  When asked if she would write a novella in Kenji's POV, she said "yes, and she probably will" but she added "I don't think I was supposed to tell you that."  Yes! I love insider info!

Brodi Ashton assembling my guitar pick necklace
Brodi Ashton's Everneath Series ties some elements of myth into the story, but I was happily surprised to find out she purposely didn't research them in depth, because she didn't want to be restricted by their stories. Hopefully that means her trilogy will not end tragically like so many myths do. You know me, I'm all about the happy ending!  I asked her if she was Team Jack or Team Cole. She said she is Team Cole, and
I got a little scared, but then she added that
Nikki is firmly Team Jack! Phew!!

Cynthia Hand, Tahereh Mafi, Veronica Rossi
Cynthia Hand said although she feels good about finishing her series, there was one scene that came to her driving that made her so emotional, she had to pull over and cry.  She also said she would love to revisit some of the characters in the Unearthly Series someday.  She has a whole story she'd love to tell about Maggie (Clara's mom) but it wouldn't be anytime soon, as she's moved into new territory right now. I'm crossing my fingers for a novella for a few of those characters!

So, that was my exciting evening.  Well, that and the lovely 405 traffic on the way home! But enough about me. I have goodies to share! We are giving away a Signed Hardback of each of the following: Through the Ever Night, Unravel Me, Boundless, and Everbound, plus swag.  Four books to one lucky follower.  The giveaway is INTERNATIONAL.  The only requirement is that you follow the blog.  So fill out the rafflecopter below for a chance to win.

  3. You go to ALL the best events, Rachel! Tahereh! Veronica! And nooooooooo, my hopes about *ahem* Roar are ruined. I think we assumed the same thing and that we'll both end up disappointed, but somehow I still can't stop hoping. I have my copies of Unravel Me and Through the Ever Night so I'm not entering, but you're very generous as always. <3
