A Kid's Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover #1

A Kid's Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover is a feature hosted by Sara @ Forever 17 Books
where Sara gets her six year old son Shawn's perspective on a few Young Adult covers. I've adored this feature since forever, Shawn's interpretations of some of the Young Adult covers are amazing and his cover art is absolutely adorable. So I decided this would be a fun feature that I would like to be part of too.

So without further ado, here's my sister's perspective and cover art for Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally.

I think this book is about a girl who has these really good memories about her and her boyfriend. But then she breaks up with him and she tries to forget all of the memories and all about him. But she's been with him for so long that she can't forget it.

So what do you guys think? I'm hoping to make A Kid's Perspective a regular feature here at The Readers Den, that's as long as I can move my sister away from the Disney channel.

  1. Jasprit, this is absolutely adorable! How did you even get your sister to do this for your blog?! I think these posts are entertaining and fun, you should definitely do them often! Your sister is quite the artist. :) Lovely post, Jasprit, it really brightened my day!

  2. This is such a fantastic idea, Jasprit! I should ask my daughter to try with one of my books. She is 6 also, and she draws all the time.
Your sister did an amazong job, I love how all the details are there.

  3. I can easily say that this kid paints better than I do. Yup you've got the idea. Anyhow I loved this meme at Sarah's blog and I'm so happy to see it here too. I haven't read the book but it's a pretty good guess! :) Great post Jasprit :)

  4. That's so cool. I like to test my music on kids, if they sing along I know it's catchy. Also good from a writer's perspective to get a sense of how a cover grabs you. I'll be in that position very soon. BTW I think your sister is a great artist - maybe I'll ask her to design my book cover!

  6. Awwwww Jasprit! Your sister did such an amazing job!!!! This is a very cool feature, and so much fun to see how someone interprets the cover without having read the blurb or knowing anything about the book. I especially love the boneless quality to their arms, so cute:)

  11. Aww! That is so cute! This feature is interesting. Although I wanted to join I bet my little brother won't do anything for me. He's more into edgy and robotic drawings and besides he can be lazy at times :D

  15. Aww, this is so cute! I had no idea this feature existed, but it's adorable! I should probably get my brother to participate, but he's too "busy" and "old" these days. :P Lovely post, Jasprit!(:

  16. Too cute! I didn't even know about the original feature over at the other blog; but such a fun idea. It's cool that she has her son and you have your sister so it's two different genders! Keep doing this! :)

  18. Her description is really good! I love the drawing. So cute! If my sister was a few years younger I would get her to do me a few. She'd probably avoid it at all costs now. ;)

  20. Oh. My. God. Let me wipe that huge grin off my face. Haha. This is probably one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. Ever! I love drawing so much and kids always do it best. I hope you leave this feature on your blog for long. It's awesome! Btw, I need to read a book by Miranda soon. Everyone's loving them and I'm just so behind with reading them that it's embarrassing, heh. :-)

  24. Oh my gosh this is too adorable! I love your sister's accompanying story, that's actually a pretty good reading of the cover. She did a great job of recreating it too! Thanks for sharing, this feature is always so much fun. :-)

  25. That's awesome :) Such a fun idea, and I like that your sister has tried to guess what the book is about. Looking forward to future posts!

  27. I LOVE Sara's feature--I'm so glad you are doing this with your sister! I like seeing Jen's over at Starry-Eyed Revue, too, it's always so funny--and often startlingly insightful--to hear what kids think a book is about.
