Waiting on Wednesday (#2)

Is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases were eagerly anticipating.

The book I'm most excited about this week is...

Title: Breaking Beautiful
Author: Jennifer Shaw Wolf
Publisher: Walker Childrens
Publication date: April 24th 2012

Blurb from Goodreads:
Allie lost everything the night her boyfriend, Trip, died in a horrible car accident—including her memory of the event. As their small town mourns his death, Allie is afraid to remember because doing so means delving into what she’s kept hidden for so long: the horrible reality of their abusive relationship.

When the police reopen the investigation, it casts suspicion on Allie and her best friend, Blake, especially as their budding romance raises eyebrows around town. Allie knows she must tell the truth. Can she reach deep enough to remember that night so she can finally break free? Debut writer Jennifer Shaw Wolf takes readers on an emotional ride through the murky waters of love, shame, and, ultimately, forgiveness.

This book sounds amazing. I just get nervous chills thinking about it. My relationships with books dealing with memory loss hasn’t been so great in the past, but this sounds like it will be a brilliant debut from Jennifer Shaw Wolf.

I’ll leave you with this brief extract the author posted on her page.

I can still see his face, the way he tilted his head. How excited he was for me to see the gift. The pain spreads from the back of my head, cuts across my right temple and curls around the smaller scar above my eye.

I’m saving something special to give you on your birthday.

My whole head throbs.

It hurts too much to remember.

Allie can’t remember the night her boyfriend, Trip died.

She knows they were driving on the cliff road.

That Trip lost control.

That she woke up later broken and bruised.

That somehow, she survived.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my pick for the week and what you’re waiting on.

You always pick excellent books! I've seen one friend reading this on Goodreads already but I hadn't bothered to read the blurb, it sounds really intriguing!

I'm sad that I've read a few "memory loss books" in the past year or so and they made me really angry. This one sounds so interesting but I feel like a child who has been burned and doesn't want to use the oven again:) I'll wait to hear what you think of it, for sure.

I'm not sure what I am most excited about. I think maybe the second Unwind book this fall. I've been waiting YEARS for that one to come out:)

Oh my gosh, you'll never guess what I literally just found in my school library today, J -- a copy of this book! (It must have released early or something!) I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to pick it up, but since you're waiting on it and it has such a gorgeous cover, I think I'm actually going to! :) It sounds so heartbreaking and sweet and beautiful and awesome. I'm really excited to start it now!

Amazing pick for your WOW this week, Jasprit! Thanks so much for convincing me to give it a shot! :) <3

I just read an excellent review of this one and it sounds so good, mystery, drama and a big shocking ending. Can't wait for your review, Jasprit :)

There's a good chance I might have been hallucinating, but I *think* I saw this up on NetGalley. I have heard good things about this book and love the sound of it too! Awesome choice, Jasprit. :)

I was very excited about this book when I first saw it on the list of this year's debut, but the reviews I've seen so far have been mediocre, with a few exceptions. I'll still read it when I get a chance and hope I'll be among those exceptions, together with you, of course. :)

Yeah I saw it up on NetGalley too, I requested it, but haven't heard anything back yet :(

Jasprit said...

Oh no really? I will still probably read it too! *fingers crossed* that we end up liking it! :)
