Persephone didn’t ask to be the guardian of Hades Dagger, an artifact Hades forged to turn demons into daywalkers. She didn’t ask for the demon blood running through her veins that allows her to touch the thing, either. And she definitely didn’t ask for Jax, a cocky Warrior, to barge into her life and proclaim himself her bodyguard now that Hades wants his dagger back.

Forced to deal with this reality, along with an increase in demon attacks, and the fact members of the Order of Zeus keep turning up dead, Persephone finds her hands full.

When demons tell Persephone that she’s one of them she’s appalled... And a little intoxicated by the power she feels when they call her their queen. Telling Jax about her demon side might turn him away from her forever...

Something bad is brewing, and if Persephone doesn’t figure out a solution, and soon she’ll be responsible for unleashing Hell on Earth.

If you’re looking for a fun addictive read with snarky banter, hot kisses, and kick-ass action, look no further.  Demons of the Sun is a story for you!

Persephone is the last of a family of Sentries, charged with the task of keeping the Hades Dagger safe from the Underworld.  The Dagger could bring untold death and destruction to mankind if a demon got his hands on it.  She knows both the importance and the cost of keeping it safe.  She is the remaining survivor of her family after a demon attack.

No worries though, Persephone’s solitary existence is about to come to an end when Warrior Jax comes into her life.  He feels an increase in demon activity in Persephone’s vicinity, and through his investigation he stumbles upon her.  He soon nominates himself as her protector, and the sparks fly!  Persephone can’t get rid of him and wants nothing to do with a Warrior; she doesn’t feel she can trust anyone, because a betrayal is what led to her family’s death.

The push and pull between Jax and Persephone had me cracking up and also provided lots of tension (the good kind) between these two.  Here’s a quote that had me laughing:

“Are you going to let me up?” he asked. “Or do I have to show you how easily I could free myself?”

Persephone narrowed her eyes at him. “I’m stronger than I look, you know.”

“I got that. My nose got it, my head got it, and my back got it. But in case you couldn’t tell, I’m well-trained.”

“Sorry. I didn’t get that at all.”

I just adore relationships that start with hate, but gradually turn into quite the opposite.  Jax and Persephone are very much on their own in the crusade against evil which pulls them closer together in more ways than one.  Oh my,*fans self* here come the kissing scenes!  Cindi certainly knows how to write some sizzling, knee-weakening kissing scenes.  Here’s a tempting quote for you:

He scooped her into his arms, carried her to the couch, and tossed her onto it.  A squeal escaped her as he jumped on top of her. His lips came down on hers, and he gave her slow, drugging kisses. His weight, his warmth, his lips—the combination made her head spin.

That made my head spin, too!

There’s a lot of fun action is this story, and I thought the fight scenes were well-done. For once I felt I could keep up with everything that was happening.  Sometimes when I’m reading action, I sort of feel lost and don’t know quite what’s going on.  I think these scenes made you feel like you were right there, in the thick of things.

I liked the Persephone’s friends, Mara and then Danielle and Dean, twins in high-school with her.  If this story continued on with another book, I could easily envision them as Persephone and Jax’s own little Scooby gang (sorry, another Buffy reference).

This story was highly addictive and easy to get sucked into.   Truly a fun read.  Demons of the Sun wraps up nicely, but there could easily be another story.  I’m not sure if another is in the works, but I would love to see more of Jax and Persephone!

I had fun reading this along with one of my favorite Goodreads friends and blogger, Sam at Realm of Fiction.  Thanks for the fun and gossip!

I am completely convinced! I love the quotes you've included, and I love the combination of good humor and hot romance in this one. I've been having a hard time focusing on books I choose and I think I need something like this and soon.
Wonderful review, Rachel!

Damn Rachel, you always pick the best swoony quotes!

This sounds like a very fun-filled book and I have to say when I first saw the cover and you and Sam were reading, I wasn't exactly enamoured, but your review has me adding this book to my wishlist.

I always enjoy the love/hate relationships and they always make the best chickflick films and books, so I'll be sure on the lookout for this book.

Great review! :)

*raises hand* I'M LOOKING FOR THOSE THINGS RACHEL! Clearly this is the book for me. I'm a huge fan of romances that start out with hate and then evolve into love, so I'm think Jax and Persephone are going to be my kinda couple:) Super excited now!

Thanks Sam and Livvy. I picking great quotes because I love to read them in reviews, too. That, and it helps distract from my lack of reviewing skills! Lol! :)

What is up with the demons today. This is the third blog I have been to or maybe the fourth with a demon themed book. Scary! I have not heard of this one but I love snark, action and relationships that start out antagonistic! I am reading Third Grave Dead Ahead and it is full of snark and I know when I finish I will want more so I will keep this on my radar!

Rachel, you could have just said Jax and shown us those two quotes and I'd be running out to buy this book ASAP! I loveee those types of romances which start out as hate as well and I really want to meet Jax now! Plus, Persephone seems like an awesome protagonist, not to mention I loveee novels with demons in them! :D I feel like this book is totally for me, so I'm off to find a copy in my library or bookstore! Absolutely stunning review, Rachel! :)
