Monthly Recap #1

Hello everyone! I loved seeing everyone's recap of the month, that Rachel and I decided to start our own on The Readers Den. We want to make this post interactive for you guys, so have added a poll at the end for you to choose a book we should read next month that we've had on our tbr for ages!

Number of Books read:
Jasprit: 10
Rachel: 15

Highest rating:
Jasprit: 5 stars
Rachel: 4.5 stars

Lowest rating:
Jasprit: 3 stars
Rachel: 3 stars

Books reviewed:
Jasprit: Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger
The First Affair by Emma McLauglin & Nicola Kraus
Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
The Bride Wore Size 12 by Meg Cabot
The Vow by Jessica Martinez

Rachel:
All the Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry 4.5 stars
One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker 4 stars
Crash by Lisa McMann 3 stars
Bang by Lisa McMann 4 stars
The Wager by Rachel Van Dyken 3.5 stars

Best read of last month:
Jasprit: The Bride Wore Size 12 by Meg Cabot
Rachel: All the Truth That's in Me by Julie Berry

Book which surprised me the most:
Jasprit: How to Love by Kate Cotugno. I'm going to have my review for this book up soon, but let me just say, this book provided so much depth and was just so much more than what I was expecting it to be.

Rachel: One Tiny Lie. I was prepared to be frustrated with One Tiny Lie because I found out that there was cheating in the story, which I totally hate reading about. I was pleasantly surprised that somehow the situation made it bearable. I didn’t expect to be so blown away by All the Truth That’s In Me. The second person narrative was a refreshing way to tell such a brilliant story!

Fictional crush of the month:
Jasprit: Cooper from The Bride Wore Size 12. This guy just slowly crept his way to my heart as the series progressed, there was always something enigmatic and charming about him that left me wanting to know his character more. He defintiely proved he is one of the sweetest fictional crushes around!

Rachel: Definitely Ashton from One Tiny Lie! He had all the girls swooning, but only had eyes for Olivia. My kind of guy

Three books I'm most looking forward to this month:
Jasprit: Fractured by Sarah Fine. More Malachi. Yes please!
Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I have read the most gorgeous reviews for this book, so I can't wait to finally dive into this fantastic world! *I do believe in fairies I do I do* sorry that just had to be done, that is like my favourite part of the Peter Pan film, I've been known to randomly come out with this line and usually receive I don't know you looks from my sisters!
The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd. Another book which I've read brilliant reviews for.

Rachel: Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi. Can’t wait to see how it all ends!
Premeditated by Josin L.McQuien. I’ve been looking forward to this for such a long time!
Unfed by Kristy McKay. It’s the sequel to Undead, which I loved with its romance, humor, and all the lovely zombie gore!

Bookish Photo:

So my bookish photo of the month is of the impressive Young Adult section in the Foyles book store in London. Isn't it fantastic? and the best thing, they had so many great books from authors that my local book store doesn't stock and which I usually have to order from the US, authors such as Courtney Summers, Brigid Kemmerer, Miranda Kenneally and Sarah Ockler!

Readers Vote!
And now to the fun bit where we want you guys to take part. Rachel and I have enormous tbr piles, so we've decided that each month we will let you decide what we need to read asap. We can't wait to see what you guys pick for us, the poll will be open until the 5th!

Which Book Should Jasprit read next month?

Which book should Rachel read next month?

So what did you think of our first monthly recap? Is there anything you did or didn't like? Or would like us to include next month?

OMG Jasprit's gonna read Tiger Lily!! *beyond excited* I cannot wait to see what you think of it :) When we are at it Rachel you'll enjoy Stolen *crosses fingers* :)
Anyhow I love this recap. I never do anything like this so I think I should start. Also I have no idea what's wrong with me but I'm probably the only person who didn't enjoy How to Love. Great post girls :)

I loved this re-cap! I'm looking forward to your review of How to Love, Jasprit, as I'm curious about the book and can't wait for you to read Tiger Lily, which is fantastic! I'll be starting Fractured this weekend too, so I hope it's wonderful!

Rachel, I loved All the Truth in Me as well! I was so impressed by that one and I finished Into the Still Blue just this past weekend and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to comparing notes!

Lovely re-cap, ladies!(:

Wow I love this recap! I look forward to your review of How To Love, Jasprit! There are a lot of mixed thoughts about that one. And Rach, I agree, All The Truth That's In Me was one of the best books I've read last month!

Thanks for sharing, ladies! <33

I agree: recap posts are so much fun and I'm always behind on reading my favorite blogs, so they're a great way to catch up. Plus, love that y'all added a poll for your next reads :D.

I'm somewhere between you two ladies, I think, about how many I've read this month. NICE NICE, you two also had great reads, it looks like. From 3 - 5 stars? That's great.

Oooh, I have to come back and visit your Bone Season review, Jasprit. I'm in the middle of returning comments, but I'm very curious to see what you thought of that one. I loved the world and can't wait for the second and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that that's what I'll see on my return visit :D.

Rachel, I hope you're going to post a review of the Julie Berry novel! I've seen a bunch of reviews, but still not psyched enough to buy the book just yet, and maybe yours will push me over that edge. Plus, you wrote best read of last month and that you were surprised by the 2nd person narrative and how that made for a brilliant story.

Ahhh, Jasprit, I just read a review for How to Love that was also raving about that book. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on it. What was your favorite part? Sawyer? Reena?

Oooh fictional crush of the month. Nice nice. I can believe that Meg Cabot would write another swoonworthy guy :D.

YESSSS I hope to see your review of Into the Still Blue soon, Rachel. I just finished Through the Ever Night, and I'm excited for ITSB. One review I visited tonight said it was meh :(. And good luck with Tiger Lily, Jasprit! I, er, haven't seen Peter Pan (I'm a fail), but ahhaah I can relate to the I-don't-know-you looks. I get the same from my brothers :D.

THAT IS A GREAT YA SECTION. One bookstore I found had a table. One table for its YA/children's books :(. And that you could get Courtney Summers' books so easily? That must have really helped for when the read-along was happening!

*crosses fingers that Jasprit will read Everneath and Rachel will read Stolen*

It was a lovely recap ladies! I love the interactive element :D.

Recap posts are always fun. Plus, as a blogger, I don't think we realize how much we read and do for our blogs until it's all in one place. Nice job, fellow bloggers!

Jasprit, I'm so excited that you liked How to Love! I'm excited to hear what you think of it. Cooper was definitely my favorite fictional crush last month! :)
You have tons of awesome books on your poll! I didn't know what to choose, but I ended up going with Something Like Normal because that is a must read.
Rachel, I'm excited about Into the Still Blue as well. I almost died of excitement when it was available on Edelweiss. I voted for Facade on your list because it's the only one I read and loved!

LOVE recaps! They help me remember the books you guys really enjoyed but I was too lazy to actually write down and then of course promptly forgot about them. Well done me:) I voted for Easy for Jasprit to read, LOVED THAT ONE SO MUCH! And I voted for Facade for Rachel. I haven't read that one, but I've heard fantastic things about Nyrae Dawn, I need to give her a try!

This is such a great idea!

I loved how you guys broke down what books you liked/loved.

As for How To Love, I have seen such mixed reviews for that one. People either LOVED it or they HATED it. They either thought it had depth or was superficial and made no sense. I'm certainly looking forward to what you have to say on it!

I really love recaps too, whether at the end of the week or the end of the month. You two did a great job; I like that you asked questions about the things you read. And wow, you two read a lot!

I absolutely loved how you did your recap! It was so much fun to read and I love the idea of the poll at the end. I'm seeing some amazing things for How to Love so I'm excited to hear how much you loved it Jasprit! I must try and read it this month. I'm excited to see what you think of Premeditated Rachel because that one is on my wishlist! Happy reading for another month to both of you! :)

I need to get my hands on How to Love very soon. At first the reviews that I was seeing for it weren't all that good but now that more people are reading it I am seeing so many glowing ones! Love the recap ladies!

You two had a busy month! I voted, I will be interested to see what book you end up reading. A nice way to get some of those books in your TBR. I can't believe it is already October!

You ladies totally rocked September! Love your recap. I voted for Jasprit to read EASY, btw, because she simply MUST. I've only read WHITE CAT from Rachel's list, though so I decided to let my fellow readers vote on that one!

I'm a big fan of monthly recaps! Especially when your month has been as busy as your September.
I like the layout you've done fo your recap with the added extras of favourite crush etc. and the poll- I voted for Easy as it's so good and Façade because it's such a great follow up to Charade.
I also really enjoyed seeing a picture of Foyles- nice to stubble across a UK photo for a change :)

I love these monthly recaps, ladies! There's something so great about seeing it all nicely summarized and in one place :)

By the way, Jasprit, I really, really, really think you need to read SLOPPY FIRSTS! It's amazing! :)

Rachel: you should definitely read Stolen by Lucy Christopher - I have just read it and it's so incredible. Jasprit: I'm really looking forward to reading Tiger Lily too! I've been looking everywhere for it but can't seem to find it in any bookshops, so I guess I'll have to order it online.!

Oh, I am envious - we do not have bookstores like that in Sarajevo.:(

I'm so embarrassed by how horrible my reading and blogging were in September. Really hoping I can pick it back up this month! I'm excited for the books you plan to read this month and can't wait to hear your thoughts on them! I'm hoping to get to Into the Still Blue in November. It's killing me to hold off. lol :)
