Showcase Sunday #15

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea. The aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

Hello lovelies, I hope you’ve all had a great week so far! The weather here in the UK has been abysmal. With it getting darker quicker now too, there’s nothing I enjoy more than rushing home from work and curling up with a good book. These two weeks have been truly epic in terms of my book haul, so many pretties; it’s hard deciding which book to start with first.

The Off Season by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
My Life in Black and White by Natasha Friend
Shadows by Paula Weston
Things I Can't Forget by Miranda Kenneally
Pretty Bad Things by C.J Skuse (audiobook)
Rockoholic by C.J Skuse (audiobook)
No and Me by Delphine De Vigan
First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick
A Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

A big thank you to Miranda Kenneally and Orion Books/Indigo

The Mad Scientist's Daughter by Cassandra Rose Clarke
Greta and the Goblin King by Chloe Jacobs
Taken by Erin Bowman
Flawed by Kate Avelynn
The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett

A big thank you to Angry Robot, Entangled Teen, Harper Collins and Tor/Forge.

I had a nice library haul this week, they’ve been getting some great books in lately, and I’m usually quick to pounce on them request-wise with the amount of lurking I do on their online library catalogue. Rowling’s A Casual Vacancy and Fitzpatrick’s Finale; two books I was unsure of but have decided to give them a try. I was delighted to find a copy of No and Me, after reading Maja and Leanne’s fabulous reviews.

Meant to Be I had pre-ordered months ago, I can never resist a pretty cover and after reading the blurb I knew I had to get a copy, it sounds so adorable! I had to order The Off Season, after devouring Dairy Queen with Leanne and Keertana. I think it’s a book which will definitely keep my spirits cheery through this miserable weather. And a big thank you to Donna from Book Passion For Life who sent me My Life in Black and White for my birthday.

Now review-wise I’ve been quite good with trying to keep my requesting finger in check. I received some really great review books this week that I can’t wait to get started on. I finished Flawed and loved it, gosh its one heck of a disturbing book, but I couldn’t put it down. I also started Things I can’t Forget which I’m absolutely loving!

Over to Rachel to see her awesome book haul!

For review:

Hooked by Liz Fichera
He's Gone by Deb Caletti
The Trouble with Lucy by L.J Young
How My Summer Went Up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski
A Conspiracy of Alchemists by Liesel Schwarz
Undercover Professor by December Gephart
The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan

Thank you to Harlequin Teen, Random House, Penguin Books Australia, Simon Pulse, Del Rey, Carina Press, Knopf Books for Young Readers, Netgalley and Edelweiss!

Bought:

Fingerprints of You by Kristen-Paige-Madonia & Terry Rebera
Stolen by Lucy Christopher
Charade by Nyrae Dawn
Inhale by Kendall Grey
Lips Touch Three Times by Laini Taylor

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter
Breathe by Sarah Crossnan
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

What a pleasant surprise to come home to my gift of AWESOME from Jasprit! I got three books, Christmas ornaments, post-it-notes (every reader needs those!), and CHOCOLATE!! Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a more perfect gift! Thank you so much, Jasprit!

Well, I guess I had a killer couple of weeks, and I now just need to SAY NO! I really don’t know what got into me with the requesting, but now I won’t be able to eat, sleep or do anything else but read!  I’m really excited about The Trouble With Lucy, looks like another Aussie gem. Also, The Tragedy Papers, I hope it’s not a heartbreaking read.  I’ve already read and loved Charade: my review, and it’s a steal of a deal on Amazon for .99 cents!  Inhale was free on Amazon, so I snatched that up, too.  I bought Stolen after reading the amazing reviews from Sam @Realm of Fiction and Leanne @The Reclusive Reader, you ladies are killing my reading pile!  And I bought Fingerprints of You after seeing it in Mandee’s from Vegan YA Nerds Showcase Sunday.  It was sooo pretty, I had a serious case of: must-buy-because-of-cover!  I bought Lips Touch: Three Times at the Laini Taylor signing because the illustrations are so completely gorgeous (see photos) I couldn’t resist!

Wow Rachel and I will definitely be busy over the next few weeks with so many books to get through! Do you have a book haul for this week? Link us up, we'd love to see the pretties you received.

Talk about two, amazing book hauls! I've been pretty quiet blogging and reading wise lately so I haven't received a package in ages and seeing this post made of awesomesauce, makes me long for bookish package.

I loved The Fault in Our Stars, it was amazing. I was literally walking around the house is awe whilst reading it. That's how good it is. Yay for The Off Season. I haven't started the series but having read your review of Dairy Queen and seeing how much you enjoyed it, plus the fact that you straight away ordered the sequel, makes me want to dive on into the series. Meant to Be looks amazing, as does Things I Can't Forget. I haven't heard much about My Life in Black and White but it sounds great. I'm *really* excited for your review of Flawed, Jasprit! I read a raving review recently and though I haven't heard much about it, I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. I haven't read much about Hooked, How My Summer Went Up in Flames or Fingerprints of You either so I look forward to seeing what you think of them Rachel!

Happy Reading :)

It looks you guys both got some pretty amazing books this week! I've heard so many things about Flawed, and I'm pretty excited to see your thoughts on it! Actually, all of these books look fantastic so I have no idea what books to even point out... but I'm thinking about ordering a copy of Stolen after reading Sam @RealmofFiction's review as well!

Great haul!

Jasprit--THE LIBRARY. I think we are both hardcore-library book addicts!! ;) I still need to read Finale and TFioS very badly! I'm quite ashamed of myself. I can't wait to read your reviews on them! And eep, MEANT TO BE!! I NEED that book, like now. Flawed, holy cow, I just bought my own copy because there have been way too many amazing reviews.

Rachel-I think I might have to check out Stolen soon too, because I loved Sam's review for it as well! I bought Charade after I saw that you said it was on sale! Alice in Zombieland. <3 I want to read that one so badly!!

You ladies have so many beautiful books ahead of you, happy reading!! <3

You guys get the most amazing books ever!
I'm so jealous of your Things I Can't Forget, Jasprit. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on that book!
I hope you enjoy My Life in Black and White! I really enjoyed it, so hopefully you'll like it too!

Rachel, you haven't read Can You Keep A Secret?
I hope you'll find it as funny as I did! It's a very cute chick-lit book!

Have an amazing time reading your books!

Wow, INCREDIBLE haul, ladies! Jasprit, I adored No and Me and I really hope you too; it was such a beautiful book. :) Also, if you and Keertana wanted, perhaps we can squeeze in a quick readalong of The Off Season between the numerous amount of book you have to read? :) The Mad Scientist's Daughter, The Nightmare Affair, Taken (THAT COVER - *spasms and dies*) all sound phenomenal, and I highly anticipate what you think of them all! I'm reading Flawed soon and have high hopes for that one. Hopefully it's not reminiscent of the much loathed Forbidden, though, haha.

And Rachel, asdfghjkkl you have Stolen!! A thousand times yes! I hope you enjoy, and I look forward to seeing what you think of Ty. ;) And Jasprit is such a sweetie; look at those delicious chocolates, book gifts, and post it notes! You guys have such a wonderful relationship. Fingerprints of You and Lips Touch: Three Times both look like entirely gorgeous novels as well. :) Happy reading, hon!

Ogg, I don't even know where to begin. Ohh, that's a lie, I do: Darynda Jones, Jasprit? Yes, yes and YES! I have The Mad Scientist's Daughter too, I can't wait to read it. And of course I requested Taken too, it looks wonderful!
Rachel, I'll wait for you to read Fingerprints of You and if you like it, I'll buy a copy as well. It's simply too gorgeous to resist.
Happy reading, lovely ladies!

Ahh where to start?! Both of you have such impressive book hauls this week! Jasprit, I know you enjoyed Flawed and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Shadows. Ooh and The Casual Vacancy! I stopped reading it pretty early on as it wasn't my sort of book, but I still had to make sure I at least owned it. It's J.K. Rowling after all. ;) I hope you enjoy it more!

Rachel, those Lips Touch illustrations really are gorgeous! I'm sure you will enjoy (wrong word!) Stolen, though be prepared, it is intense. And how lovely of Jasprit to send you those treats! Galaxy is just delicious. ;)

I can't wait to see what you think of it and Can You Keep a Secret is SO funny! I have a feeling you'll love it! :) I'm also really curious about The Tragedy Paper - I loved the synopsis for that one, so I hope it's just as good. Want to buy Charade after the awesome review for it that I read here!

Henrietta @ Leisure Reads said...

Wow, that's a lot of books :) Jasprit, I'm excited that you're going to read The Off Season! And Rachel, I can't wait to hear what you've to share on Fingerprints of You. Enjoy the books and have an awesome week!

Livvy said...

Wow. You two have an awesome amount of books.

Jasprit: Meant to Be. Rachel has totally convinced me that I need to read this. The Casual Vacancy. I still need to finish that book. It's good, but it's just so time consuming. I fear I shall never finish it at this rate.

Rockoholic, First Grave on the Right and The Fault in Our Stars are all books I want to read. I've heard good things about them all, I just haven't been able to get my hands on them, yet. I'm so jealous.

And then you have Taken and The Nightmare Affair and Greta and the Goblin King. And *sigh*. You just have so many books that look good. I'll just read your reviews and read vicariously through you instead since I can't read them. haha.

I've been recommended Lips Touch Three Times as being really good. And Breathe, sounds good.

Oh, Cadbury chocolate is by far the BEST chocolate ever made. You cannot beat it. American chocolate sadly doesn't hit it for me. I hope you enjoy your Cadbury chocolate. I'm so lucky to get an ample access to it! :)
