Series... I need your help!

After reading posts from Mel @ The Daily Prophecy and Siiri @ Little Pieces of Imagination on how they were getting on with completing series, I really wanted to get my own post together too. I love making lists, so knew that I would have a lot of fun with this, but was really scared about checking out how I was doing on Goodreads (I'm one of those readers that say they will read something, but never get around to it). I'm sort of wishing that I hadn't checked actually! That is a lot of series that I need to complete. I realised that the only way to whittle this list down is with your help, if you think there are any books on here that I won't like or need to take off my list, just let me know, or you think there are books that I need to read immediately. Also if you plan to read any of these books soon, let me know and we can maybe read them together? My plan is to read at least one book from this list a week, I will try and update you guys in a few weeks with how I'm getting along. Thanks for your help!

The Syrena Legacy deeeeeefinitely needs to be pushed up from maybe. Great trilogy! (I haven't read the third yet but.. the first two were amazing!)

I've only read five of the series in your first category, I finished Rebel myself a few days ago and that book was a JOURNEY! I can't say I recommend Allegiant, so I'll just... go stand in the corner. The Legend trilogy by Marie Lu is fantastic and the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy is ABSOLUTELY magical, though there are minor issues with the last two books I can't remember being in the first. Laini Taylor's prose is SO beautiful!

Throne of Glass is my favorite series ever but I only decided that after reading Crown of Midnight. Honestly, I'd recommend reading The Assassin's Blade / prequel novellas to ToG before reading the book (the first four in length equal about a book) and you can decide if you like Sarah's writing and Celaena herself.

THE DIVINERS is so good but waiting for the sequel is just :\ I only read it myself a few months ago but I feel like it's going to be a looooong wait. Same for Seraphina, though I read that one at the beginning of 2013? Something like that, it's been a while.

I've seen nothing but good things about Anna and the French Kiss, The Queen's Thief, Graceling, The Bone Season, Noughts and Crosses..

I haven't read Partials, but I think my mom tried to and didn't like it plus my friend is struggling through the third in the series.

I read Cinder and The Girl of Fire and Thorns but I haven't gone on with either series, though I plan to continue with Scarlet (Cinder) soon. Not sure about the other, I was just really unattached to the MC.

*BREATHES* So many books! If you do decide to pick up The Darkest Minds, I wouldn't mind re-reading with you!

I usually give up on series but if they are my fave I read the new ones straight on release. (Like the rephaim series OMG read Shimmer this week and it was awesome, now dying for the final book. it will totally not disappoint ;) )

I read the first two Alexandra Bracken books last week (or the week before) and they were fun and I was surprised I liked them as I had thought I was burnt out of that genre. Plus the love interest in them is swoony and a really nice guy (even though nice sounds boring -- it's opposite of. It had been a while since I read a swoony, interesting and hot love interest who is not a bad boy/jerk -- totally into him!). I think you would like it.

Laini Taylor's final book was great, too. not my fave of the series, but definitely on par with what you would expect from the first two. I know you will get to that when you are in the perfect mood for it and then you will love it <3

About at least a dozen you have are series I totally got bored in/uninterested in continuing. if you feel that way just ditch them! Also, totally wait to be in the mood for the book -- that can so affect your reading experience.

I have The Bone Season but am unsure if I will like it? It seems like one of those books that take a while to get into and I always put them off...

Good luck! (I love a good list, too. I need to make a few on get back on my blog again...)

Yes, I've been waiting for this post to be published :D

1. Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore (read first two, partway through Bitterblue)
--> I'm going to finish this series this summer. I finally got Fire & Bitterblue.

4. His Fair Assassin by Robin LaFevers (read first book)
--> YES! Approve. I have so much love for this series.

11. Reboot by Amy Tintera (read first book)
--> It's a duology, so that's easy to finish. I really liked the conclusion.

13. Legend by Marie Lu (started Legend)
--> I only have to read Champion. I wasn't a huge fan of the second book.

15. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (Only read Cinder)
--> GO GO GO :D

Series to start:
5. Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
--> DO IT. Again, a series I have so much love for <3 One of my favorites.

12. The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
--> It's good. I've read the first two books :)

29. Everneath by Brodi Ashton
--> I really like this series.

33. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
--> You should start this when you're in a funny mood. Sophie is hilarious.

37. Partials by Dan Wells
--> Yeay!

37. Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman
--> Great idea :)

Also on my list:
4. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
5. The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo
9. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
10. The Diviners by Libba Bray

Because of you I've made a beginning for my 'Series I want to start' list and it's huuuuge and I've only started, haha.

I've also read the first book in the Kate Daniels series and have the final book left to read in The Artist's trilogy! I am excited to read Bold Tricks, but I'm a bit a nervous as to whether or not I'll enjoy the rest of the Kate Daniels series. The Raven Boys and Prisoner of Night and Fog are the next two I plan on reading. I've heard nothing but great things about them!

I would definitely read the final DoSaB book and continue with The Lunar Chronicles. I had a lot of fun with them. (I still need to read Cress! It's been sitting on my nook forever!) Scarlet was pretty different from Cinder... a lot more romance! =)

Ah darn... now I need to go make a list too ... You have some great series on here, but much like you I have not completed them or kept up with them either -- so I cant give good feedback :/ Sorry. I do wish you LOADS of luck with this!

JASPRIT!!! I have stress just looking at that massive list! I don't even want to make a list of all the series I need to start/finish because I'll just give myself an ulcer. There are some series thought that I DEFINITELY want to start, one of which is the My Fair Assassin trilogy. I need to read those. ASAP:)

Good luck making your way through all those epic books!!!

I absolutely love series.

Here are the ones where I've read the whole series and loved them:
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Divergent by Veronica Roth (although I had problems with the last book)
Legend by Marie Lu
The lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Revenants by Amy Plum
Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Well, that might have given me a headache, Jasprit. You have so many series that you need to read or complete! I imagine if I did one too, I would have a very similar quantity too especially because I start a series and then wind up not finishing it, which is very bad for my TBR!
All I can say is, good luck with attempting it! :) Hopefully, you'll find some gems. :)

Well. DAMN :D That is a big list. <3 (Though I'm sure my list is even bigger, as I own hundreds of books that I have yet to read :p) ACK. But ohh. So many of these books are AMAZING :D I hope you will manage to read them all. <3 Especially Bitterblue. I adored it. And Stormdancer! Loved it. Kinslayer is SO GOOD but so damn heartbreaking o.O Best of luck. <3

Oh so many brilliant series, Jasprit and I agree I really don't want to know what I have to start or complete. But there is a few on your list that I have if you wanted to read together...!? Um Tempest, Allegiant, Starcrossed, Throne of Glass and the Rephaim series! I have those on my shelf that I need to read, alongside some on my Kindle as well.

On the ones I have enjoyed, I loved the Everneath series, it has some ups and downs but overall as a series it was really good. Most of Simone Elkeles books I really enjoy! I hope you get through most of them soon! Let me know on the books! :)

Oh my gosh, I should totally do this but I'm scared. Lol I have so many series' that I've started and haven't finished but there are several that I've quit. TONS more that I still need to start but I told myself that I'd finish some before starting any new. Good luck! :)

Shooting Stars Mag said...

Woah, so many series! This is my problem with starting books that will be a series. I just can't keep up. I need to finish the werewolf books by Maggive Stiefvater; I've read the first two, need to read Forever (hope to do soon so I can read Sinner). I've read Nevermore by Kelly Creagh, which I really liked, but I need to read the second book. So, so many more from your list are things that I need to finish or read as well. :)

Thank you so much for your help Kaniesha! There's just so many books out there that I had no clue where to begin. I had read a lot of mixed reviews on Banks series, but seeing as you enjoyed it so much, I will definitely have to give it a go soon. I am super excited now about reading Marie Lu's series and finishing Laini Taylor's series too. I loved Crown of Midnight too, it certainly bought out all the feels. I was only able to get a copy of the novellas now, but will read them before Heir of Fire. And yes I'm definitely up to a readalong! :)

Jasprit said...

Thank you Nomes! I so need to get used to ditching books more often, I'm one of those readers that tend to drag myself through it, just in case I miss out on something vitally important! I can't wait for Shimmer to come out, especially with the way things ended in Haze. And I'm thrilled to know that you enjoyed Bracken's series. I can't wait to meet this love interest! The Bone Season did take me a while to get into, but the second half was amazing, and one of the characters reminded me of Barrons! ;)

Jasprit said...

Thank you for your help Mel, I will definitely try and get to my copies of the books you've mentioned. I have a few read-alongs planned, so can't wait to dive into them. I know my series I want to start list is out of control! I can't wait to see what yours looks like!

Jasprit said...

Thanks Makaela! I didn't really enjoy Cinder as much as I was hoping, but have heard great things about Scarlett, so will certainly try and get to this series over the Summer!

Thank you for your help Emma, I would definitely be up to reading some books with you, I will tweet you in a bit. And I'm planning to start Everneath this weekend, super excited about it!

Jasprit said...

Ha I'm the same Bonnie, I'm definitely going to try and give it a go over the Summer! And thank you! :)

Monique Morris said...

Oh wow! That really is a lot. You haven't read Allegiant yet? And you haven't been spoiled, yet? That's amazing! Definitely finish The Lunar Chronicles!!! :) You will not regret it! I'm not done with the Legend series yet either, I still need to need to read Prodigy. Leaving Paradise is a quick read and I recommend it! There are only two books in that series. I thought the series was pretty good.

Just remember. The Lunar Chronicles. You want to finish that. Trust me.

Faye M. said...

WOW!!!! O_O That's A lot! I'm glad I didn't make any lists too because I think I would have perspired and gotten shivers just from the amount of titles =)) But if you're going to start anything, let it be the Lunar Chronicles. Seriously, girl, just Cinder?! Come on ;) Read Scarlet and Cress (and Fairest, soon!) and come rave and fangirl about it with us!!!

Delirium by Lauren Oliver (read first two)
Hmm, I have finished this series but I honestly wish I didn't read the last book because it was just so disappointing.
Daughter of Snoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (need to read final book).
Ah same here! I need to read book 2 and 3
The Rephaim by Paula Weston
oooh Jasprit you are in for a treat. Shimmer is absolutely amazing >.<
Maze Runner by James Dashner
I want to start this series as well. I just bought the first book the other day and hope to read it before the movie comes out.

Awesome list there, Jasprit! <33

Oh, wow! I have a Goodreads shelf dedicated to series I need to finish. I am THE WORST at starting series and never finishing them --I have read the first book in a series, loved it and then never continued with the series. I honestly do not know why I do that!

From your list I highly recommend that you read Amy Plum's Revenants series and the Nantucket books by Leila Howland --perfect for summer!

Sam (Realm of Fiction) said...

I am definitely also one of those readers that say they will read something, but never get around to it. None of your maybe books jump out at me as must-reads, but you HAVE to finish the Legend and Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogies. I really enjoyed those books, particularly Laini's. From your series to start, I'd go for The Queen's Thief, For Darkness Shows the Stars, and Prisoner of Night and Fog. I have mixed thoughts about the Jessica Darling series - I loved the first few books, but fell out of love with the series towards the end. But I would love to see what you think of it! Good luck getting through some of these, Jasprit! :)

Oh my goodness, I should probably do this sometime, but it definitely intimidates me. I used to be a strict series-finisher, I thought people who didn't right away were WEIRD. Now, I'm one of them ;) We have similar ones like Delirium and Abandon. I STILL haven't finished Graceling series, I guess I'm intimidated and really wanting to be in the right mood, you know? And so many series that I want to start! Ah, when will we have the time? :)

Siiri said...

Ok, so not going to talk about the books you want to read other than DoS&B and Legend series--we can totally marathon them together <3 Across the Universe was good, but the sequel? I've tried it twice now and it's just so boring *yawns* Fire and Thorns we shall buddyread. Revenants is well.. boring. Though I have the second book so if you like the first one, we can buddyread the sequel. Starcrossed is perf for summer, but has lots of descriptive witing and the MC is a tad annoying at times. The secondary characters are awesome! (HECTOR! =)) Oh, and the chapters are reallllllly long :D But it's good for summer. I may crack open my paperback of the sequel this summer ;) SLAMMED. OH MY GOD 'EM TEARS. I LOVE PIVOT POINT, THE SEQUEL FROM WILL'S POV SO MUCH. I open it from a random place and can start smiling and laughing immediately or just sob so much that it turnes into full on crying. BEST BOOOOOK!!!! THE DARKEST MINDSYES YES YEEEESSSSSS!!!!!! The Kynburn Legacy is really fun and the MC is just the most adorable and so curious. I'm a proud member of team Jared and I refuse to believe that there will be some other guy that comes out on top. Everneath is totally magical (TEAM JACK!!!) and so, so, sooooo haunting and beautiful. Tempest is one of my fav guy POVs and is such a thrilling read. Something Strange--Nick only liked the first book =/ Hex Hall--while so many people love that one, I couldn't make myself get through even 5 chapters. Superlatives & Partials--we can read them and Prisoner of ight and Fog too :) So you've read Anna, but have you read Lola yet? I loved that even more. So good! Leaving Paradise is okay, but too angsty for me. Hereafter read well as an audiobook and I really enjoyed that one. I have the sequel so maybe if you want to read it one day, we can :) And I really want to start Between the Lines so perhaps? Perhaps we can read that togetehr as well? :D OH LORD, JAZZY. This is a LOT! We can discuss them all tomorrow. I hope youhave a great day and *hugs* have fun tonight :)

Muahahahah you have brought out the evil me who likes to whittle down lists! So here goes!

1. I'm hoping you like Bitterblue, especially since you're partway through it, because it wasn't for everyone. Bitterblue is a very different heroine from Katsa and Fire, and the story isn't quite as action packed. I still loved it, but to each her own!

2. Personally PLL just gets too insane for me and I can't handle that level of drama. But it is addicting, so it might be worth sticking around for?

3. Delirium - Yergh. There were a lot of things that made me unhappy about Requiem. I liked Delirium, and liked the middle one a little less, so this series wasn't really for me from the start, so you might not hate it. But the ending really is just blegh. I'm pretty sure most people agree on that, although their reasons are probably all different.

4. Divergent - I feel like it's the sort of thing you need to read because everyone has? I didn't like this series either, but kept through because I kept...expecting to like it? I can't imagine you've made it through without having the ending spoiled, but it's possible you have. I actually liked the ending, but thought the execution was sloppy. And she uses two POVs, but they sound so similar I kept getting confused as to who was narrating. So again, it wasn't for me...but it might be for you?

5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone. YES! It totally didn't go anywhere NEAR where I thought it was going to...but it's worth it. I am in love with her writing and worldbuilding though, and it is a pretty big book. I'd say it's worth finishing though!

6. YOU HAVEN'T READ THE THIEF?!?!?! You need to put this at the top of your series. ASAP. Like seriously. The Thief is just full of all these twists and is AWESOME. And then the second and third books come and you're just like...twists and FEELS! (The fourth book was just pretty good though...it's probably just that the other books are so freaking amazing that it's hard to compare them. It's probably a great book if your expectations don't get to high haha)

7. Ok I could go on and on and on about why you should read The Lynburn Legacy - instead I will direct you to my post that you can read if you have time or need convincing. I am 100% positive someone else on here is going to fangirl all about it, so just trust them. I'm not usually into paranormal AT ALL and I loved this. It's got great female relationships, is funny, is just...yes. Read it!

8. I hated Everneath. In fact I have a post for that one too haha. There's lots of ranting involved. The bad boy isn't bad, the main character has such painfully low self esteem it's unbelievable, she is ridiculously whiny, and the good boy is a friggin quarterback for chrissakes! Could you get anymore cliche? But apparently it's a HUGE SURPRISE that he might be into her. Despite the fact they've been bff's their whole lives. And other things that are spoilers. Ughhhhhh

9. Crank is...either your thing or not. I happen to have a hard time getting into free verse at all. I just don't like it. But if you haven't tried reading free verse, Hopkins is definitely the author to try, and then you'll know. And if you DO like it, then you should like this. Is my guess anyway.

Personally I've really, really liked all your ongoing series listed (that I've read), but of course none of know how they're going to turn out from here on out. Except for ToG. That series is the best thing that's ever happened to my bookshelf.

I can't even imagine making a list like this for myself. I'd end up feeling far too flustered with all the series I hope to finish/read. But it is awesome to be able to have concrete goals like that.
I also need to catch up on His Fair Assassin, Fire and Thorns, Something Strange and Deadly.
I highly recommend you read The Queen's Thief series, as well as Jessica Darling, and The Grisha, among others. Good luck with all of these, Jasprit!
