Today I will be sharing an interview with one of my favourite characters Demos (they're all my favourites, I simply can't choose) from the Lila series. But first here's a bit about Lila Shortcuts.
Lila Shortcuts by Sarah Alderson
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK
Publication date: October 1st 2013.
Five compelling new short stories based in the world of HUNTING LILA. Told from the perspectives of Alex, Jack, Demos, Amber and Suki - fans of this thrilling series now have a chance to delve into the minds of other characters, and see what they really think!
Interview with Demos
Demos: Flawed. Restless. Tired. Loyal. Father.
Jasprit: When your group first came about, did you find it tough keeping control over so many different abilities?
Demos: I don't control my 'group.' They're free thinkers, there of their own free will. I wish I could control Suki's shopping compulsions, but that's beyond the power of any man.
Jasprit: Who do you get along with the most from the group?
Demos: The group... huh. We're not together any more. I'm still in touch with Harvey and Bill. Harvey and I go back a long way. I check in with Key occasionally, make sure the kids are good. Suki and Nate - I have a feeling one day they're going to get into trouble. And though I haven't seen or spoken to Lila or Jack or their family I know what they're up to. I'm in touch with Alex by email. For the moment that's all I can do.
Jasprit: You've always been one of my favourites, you have the knack of being enigmatic, domineering and frustratingly always right. Why do you think you still have such a loyal team?
Demos: Thank you. When you're on the outside for so long you form bonds stronger than blood. And then there's the fact we all believed in what we were doing. You can't fight a fight like that without trust, total belief, and surety in yourself and the people around you.
Jasprit: You seem like a person in great control over what you do and keep people at arms length. Have you ever let anyone get close to you?
Demos: I think you know the answer to that.
Jasprit: You spotted Lila's potential a long time before anyone else did (although you didn't go the right way of getting her attention). Why did you want to bring Lila under your wing?
Demos: It was the only way of keeping her safe, especially given the situation with her brother and Alex - before they knew about her and about The Unit. And because the thought of anything happening to her wasn't something I could countenance. I saw a way of protecting her and simultaneously finding a way into the Unit so I took it.
Jasprit: Are you tired of people comparing your group to the X-Men all the time? If so what makes your group different?
Demos: The X- men? Yeah, don't know about that. I've never watched the movie. Is that the one with the girl who's blue? That's a difference. No one in our group is blue. And then there's the small but important fact that we're real and that's fiction.
Jasprit: What do you like to do in your spare time when you're not being a psychokenosist?
Demos: Go for ocean drives and long walks, read, contemplate, watch old black and white movies.
Jasprit: What do I exactly have to do to be able to join your wonderful group? (I'm sure I'm just a late bloomer, and my abilities will evolve any day now!).
Demos: There is no group. Not any more. But if we were ever called upon to re-form then you'd need to be willing to sacrifice everything, so you'd best believe in the cause.
Jasprit: Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions Demos, I'm sure you're a very busy man!
Demos: Not so much any more. You're welcome.
*sigh* Demos is such a complex character, and honestly all I want to do now is give him a big hug! Lila Shortcuts is available for immediate download now! It's currently on 99p on Amazon.co.uk and $1.60 at Amazon.com. You know you don't want to keep
Also if you've not yet picked up a book by the brilliant Sarah Alderson, she has a great giveaway going on where you can win a copy of Hunting Lila, Losing Lila or The Sound here!
Having spent most of her life in London, Sarah quit her job in the non profit sector in 2009 and took off on a round the world trip with her husband and princess-obsessed daughter on a mission to find a new place to call home. After almost a year spent wandering around India, Singapore, Australia and the US, they settled in Bali where Sarah now spends her days writing and trying to machete open coconuts without severing a limb. She finished her first novel Hunting Lila just before they left the UK, wrote the sequel, Losing Lila, on the beach in India, and had signed a two book deal with Simon & Schuster by the time they reached Bali. A third book, Fated, about a teenage demon slayer, which was written during their stay in California, was also bought by Simon & Schuster and published in January 2012. The sequels to Fated – Severed & Shadowed – were released in November 2012 and March 2013. Sarah’s newest novel – The Sound – a young adult thriller, was released in August 2013 in the UK, Australia & Canada and is being published in the US in May 2014. Three more YA novels are lined up for release with Simon & Schuster over the coming years, as well as a collection of short stories.
Sarah has co-written the Hunting Lila screenplay and is working on several other books and screenplays (multi-tasking is one of her favorite things). In her spare time she also writes adult romance novels under the pen name Lola Salt.

I love that Demos is so unintentionally hilarious! To be honest, he remained somewhat of a mystery to me even after two books so I appreciate this chance to learn a few more details about him. Thanks for sharing the post, Jasprit, I miss these characters so much, I can't wait to read Shortcuts. :)
Hah, gotta love this dude. I haven't read this series yet but it sounds really good and the cover is kinda creepy O.O
Thanks for sharing, luv! <33
I haven't heard of this series *gasps* I cannot believe it. Demons sounds like a really interesting guy and he is funny! Like Maja said unintentionally. :D Great interview Jasprit :)
I didn't even know this book existed! I'll have to get it soon as I'd love to read these characters perspectives! Thanks for sharing, Jasprit!(:
I haven't read this series but I'm intrigued! Demos sounds like he could be kind of a jerk but also a good guy, helping out kids with abilities. Hum...could be good!
What?! I've never heard of this book (or series)! How is that possible? It really sounds intriguing, and Demos sounds like, well, a bit of a tool (and a bad boy), so colour me intrigued! Thanks for sharing, Jasprit!
"Is that the one with the girl who's blue? That's a difference. No one in our group is blue."
*snort* I love Demos! I still have only read book one of this series but I LOVED it and I can't wait to get caught up with book two and then read these shorts:) Enigmatic characters always end up being my favorites, and Demos is certainly no exception. So excited to read more about him Jasprit!
I remember really liking Demos in the first book because he was so mysterious. I love that we get to know him a bit better from this interview, Jasprit. Ha! And the whole X-men thing made me nearly spit my coffee. I'm curious as to why they aren't a group anymore. I guess I have to read the second book then.
Thanks for sharing, Jasprit! :)
I remember you saying how much of a fan you are of this author! I did buy a copy of The Sound I really need to read and I should check out the Lily books too!
So excited that Alderson is giving us more stories for the Lila series :)
Thanks for sharing the interview with Demos - it's a little sad that the group is no longer living together, but clearly Demos is a very good leader.
Fun interview! I haven't read anything by this author, but I'm a bit curious now. Demos does sound like one complex guy.
Ack, I still need to read HUNTING LILA, and I know I'm really missing out because a lot of some trusted reviewers seem to have loved it! Now, I don't exactly know who Demos is, but after this interview... I think it's safe to say that I'm intrigued. What is this group you two speak about? And I never knew that HUNTING LILA was paranormal! For some reason, I always thought it was purely contemporary. You're totally right in saying that he's a complex character -- at some parts of the interview, I found him funny, but others, he just sounded tired. And dull. And bored. I wonder what his deal is...
Great interview, you two! :)

Hyperventilation is me.
I can't wait to get my hands on those! Great interview, Jasprit. I'm sure that your abilities WILL evolve.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I haven't had the chance to read this yet. But I will soon.
"No one in our group is blue." Hah hah hah. Okay, I am charmed. :) Must read Alderson soon, you've been such a big cheerleader for her books I don't know why I haven't gotten around to it yet!
