Cover Fever #15: Me Before You by JoJo Moyes

Hi all, this month's cover that Rachel and I have chosen is one for a book that I totally fell in love with (I finished it last month and it's still constantly on my brain), it's Me Before You by JoJo Moyes, honestly if you haven't read this book yet, what are you waiting for, this book is one of those books that will probably break your heart several times, but trust me it will be worth it. So without further ado here are four versions of Me Before You.

U.S COVER                                       U.K COVER

GERMAN COVER                          CZECH COVER

Rachel:
I think the the US cover looks a little too peppy and happy for the subject matter of this book, and I don't really care for the color combination or the font of the Czech cover. The German cover is better but still not my favorite. I like the UK cover best of all four. The lettering seems a little melancholy and I think that fits in with the story better and the color combinations work.  I can't say I'm in love with any of the covers, though.

Rachel's Verdict:
The UK version is the best, IMO, of all four, but only marginally so.

Jasprit:
I don't think that the U.S cover does this story the justice it deserves, it just comes across as a bit plain and simple to me, which is a real shame. I do like the prettiness of the U.K edition, I like the soft, subtle colours that they've gone for and the picture they've used does give the impression of hope, which conveys a lot what this book really is about. The German cover is pretty too, but the poppy like flowers remind me of a war novel. And finally the Czech cover, once again it is a pretty cover, but maybe not one that I would choose to have on my shelves.

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
The three Euopean covers are quite similar, but I think the U.K cover has to be my favourite this time around.

Cover Fever #14 Saving June & I Was Here

Hello lovelies! Jasprit and I are back with another Cover Fever. We both adore covers so this is a favorite feature of ours. Today we're featuring Saving June by Hannah Harrington, a story both Jasprit and I enjoyed, and I Was Here by Gayle Forman, because the stories sound very similar to me.

Australian Cover                     UK Cover

Saving June      Saving June

US Cover

Saving June

  USCover                             UK Cover

I Was Here     I Was Here

Rachel:
The faded out image of the Aussie version of Saving June is pretty but not my favorite. I think I like the crisp contrast of colors with the UK version a little more.  I'm drawn to Harper's (I'm assuming) face.  I'm not really fond of the US version, it feels impersonal and remote for some reason.  I like the US version of I Was Here better than the UK version.  The colors and the scenery are beautiful and it looks like the heroine is about to take a journey, maybe a road trip, to find the answer behind her friend's suicide.

Rachel's Verdict:
Saving June: UK Cover
I Was Here: US Cover

Jasprit:
I always tend to find myself falling in love with Aussie covers, on occasion I have found myself ordering books from Fishpond, just so that I can get my hands on the Aussie cover. So you can probably tell that I'm going to say the Aussie cover of Saving June is one of my all time favourites, I love the subtle colours on the cover and just how simple the cover looks. I do like the petals, colour and font used on the US cover of Saving June and do much prefer it to the UK cover (I don't like the close up image here at all). For I Was Here I absolutely love the US cover, it has me interested about where there this girl could be off to and where is here? When I first saw the UK cover of I Was Here I was disappointed, I have slowly come to like it a bit more, how the bits of square represent different parts of the story, but I would still prefer to have a US edition on my shelves.

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
Saving June: Aussie cover
I Was Here: US cover

Cover Fever #13 Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

Jasprit and I are back with another Cover Fever.  Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta is one of my all-time favorite books and I know Jasprit loved it as well.  There are several different covers, but I only picked four to display.  Down below Jasprit and I will pick our favorites but let us know in the comments which you prefer!

US Hardcover                                        AU paperback

Swedish edition                                Norwegian edition

Jasprit:
Since I read this book, I've known it for its vibrant coloured US hardcover, it stands out and I love having it on my shelves. The three other covers give off a more somber tone and I know the book does have aspects of that, but its not what I remember this book for, so that's one of the reasons that I prefer the US edition. Also the Norwegian and Swedish covers tend to come across as a bit dull and boring.

Jasprit's Verdict: The US cover for sure!

Rachel:

I have a copy of the US Hardcover on my shelf and I've always loved the look with the vibrant orange poppy that ties right into the story.  I've never really liked the AU Paperback cover but it does tie in with the story the best. Maybe it's the coloring. I wish it wasn't so yellow. I do like the Swedish cover, the tree looks a little sparse to be the one from the story, though. The Norwegian cover is just okay to me.

Rachel's Final Verdict:
The US Hardcover.

Cover Fever #12: The Diviners by Libba Bray

Rachel and I share another Cover Fever post with you today. Today we look at a book we both loved The Diviners by Libba Bray, (we both wish that April would get here sooner, so that we could read Lair of Dreams!). Rachel and I will weigh in with our choice, but we'd love to hear your opinion, too!  Let us know what you think in the comments below

         US Hardcover                            UK Paperback (2013)

US Paperback                                   Australian Cover

Rachel:
As usual the US Cover is my least favorite of the bunch, but surprisingly the Australian cover doesn't really knock my socks of either.  Usually I'm drooling over Aussie covers! I absolutely LOVE the UK Paperback cover because it completely fits the story. A mystery set in the the roaring '20's this cover has a beautiful Art Deco look synonymous with that time period along with a flapper girl, front and center!

Rachel's Verdict:
Hands down, UK Paperback.

Jasprit:
This book has undergone so many different cover changes in the last two years, I honestly can't keep up. When I got a copy of this book I actually received the UK hardback edition which you can view here and it is a pretty stunning cover, depicting the story really well. Bu then when I saw the 2013 UK paperback edition I fell in love, the design is gorgeous, I love the colours that they've gone with. If I had the choice now I would definitely go with this cover now. The Australian cover is pretty neat too, it gives off a great air of mystery and the vibe that there's something dark and dangerous about the book. Although the US hardcover is pretty neat, I think it fails in comparison to the UK paperback and Australian edition. I have no idea what they were thinking with the US paperback, I know they were trying to capture the 1920's vibe, but I'm not feeling the people they've used on the cover or the style they've gone with at all.

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
UK Paperback for sure!

Cover Fever #11 One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

Jasprit and I are back with another Cover Fever and I'm featuring a book I just recently read and loved: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes.  Wish I could say the same for the US cover, which in my opinion doesn't fit the story and doesn't attract readers to pick it up. But maybe that's just me.  Jasprit and I will weigh in with our choice, but we'd love to hear your opinion, too!  Let us know what you think in the comments below

US Cover                                 UK Cover

One Plus One      The One Plus One

Australian Cover                     Swedish Cover

The One Plus One      Etthundra mil

Rachel:
Well as I said I don't care for the US Cover and I think it does little to attract readers.  It fit the story at all.  The UK version is a little better because at least we have all the characters represented, but it wouldn't call to me at a bookstore.  The Australian Cover is actually prettier, and it might catch my eye, but still, I'm not sold.  The Swedish Cover is the most suited to the story with the open road (it's a road-trip book) and the little girl doing math problems fits well with Tanzie being a math whiz.  I like the road hugging the water and beautiful countryside, and I'd be tempted to pick this book up to read the description.

Rachel's Verdict:
The Swedish Cover.

Jasprit: I actually haven't read this book yet, so don't really know which cover would suit the book best. I'm really weird when it comes to book covers, sometimes I'm all for the cover matching the story and sometimes I just want a pretty cover. I think the UK one is just a bit too simple for my liking, the Swedish cover is pretty neat, but I don't think I would be the tempted to pick it up in a book store, the Australian cover is quite pretty too, but again I'm not finding the cover that appealing. The US cover is really bright and in your face with its big fonts, but I like it, I think I've seen a few of JoJo's covers like this and wouldn't mind having a matching set on my shelf!

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
The US cover.

I like how Rachel and I have really differing opinions this time around, which cover do you prefer?

Cover Fever #10 Boundless by Cynthia Hand

Rachel and I are back with Cover Fever this week. I decided to go with a series that we're both huge fans of, I know that we both had mixed sort of feelings with the way things ended with the final book Boundless, but nonetheless, we're still huge fans of the gorgeous covers these books have had so far, (I'm still pining to get my hands on the Aussie covers). So without further ado!

     US Cover                                        Australian Cover

German Cover                                    Danish Cover

Jasprit:
The UK publishers decided not to publish this final book, although I wasn't a huge fan of their editions, I still wanted to see what their final version would have looked like, so instead I ended up buying the US cover, which I have to say is pretty stunning. I'm a huge fan of purply coloured books, and this one is even more pretty in real life as it has a gorgeous silver font going across it, which is sort of raised, so I love the feel and design of it. The Australian cover is so beautiful! I love the colours that they've used for the cover and as I'm a fan of the fall/winter, I love how it gives off a fall sort of feel. The German cover isn't too bad, but gives off a scary sort of vibe and definitely wouldn't make me want to give this book a go if I saw it in a bookstore. And whilst I like the tone and colour of the Danish cover too, overall it really isn't my sort of cover.

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
The Australian cover, closely followed by the US

Rachel:
I've never been fond of the US cover.  I wasn't a fan of the monochrome, and of course this is the cover I have sitting on my shelf. Lol! Although, I do agree with Jasprit about the font and scrolling of the US, it's pretty.  The Danish cover is enchanting, and here we have monochrome again, sort of, but it works for me in this case. It seems heavenly which is probably what they were going for.  My favorite though is the Australian cover. I love the autumnal coloring and the flowing dress gives it an ethereal feeling.  So gorgeous!

Rachel's Final Verdict:
The Australian cover with the Danish cover coming in second.

Cover Fever #9: If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Jasprit and I are back with Cover Fever and this week I thought I'd feature If I Stay.  I loved this series even if it did make me cry in parts and it's been made into a movie. I'm always nervous when this happens, especially when I love the book so much because I don't want to be disappointed. Wasn't sure about the character choice of Jaime Blackley for Adam until I watched the movie trailer. Wow!  Anyhow, let's look at the cover choices:

                   US Hard Cover                            UK Cover

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)
If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)

               US Paperback                                 Indonesian

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)

Jasprit:
I am so excited about this film being made into a movie and although the first book wasn't my favourite, I remember it was one of the first books I picked up based on a recommendation from Goodreads, anyway I digress. I have see so many different editions to this book, especially over here, that I'm not even sure which is my favourite. I'm usually a fan of covers with models on the front, but I'm not really feeling the UK or US paperback editions. I do like the simple design of the US hard cover, its simple, but not that memorable. I am however hugely fond of the Indonesian cover, its pretty, it reminds me of the Winter months and something I could curl up with when its cold.

Jasprit's Final Verdict:
Indonesian cover.

Rachel:
I HAD the US Hardcover until I lent it to a friend and haven't seen it since. It's a signed copy *sobs* but I've never been all that fond of the cover.  The US Paperback seems more appropriate for the story but I'm not sure I like her face taking up half of the space. Something about it just doesn't click with me.  The Indonesian cover has sort of grown on me. The winter setting and empty bench agree with the feelings of melancholy you feel throughout the story.

Rachel's Final Verdict:
Tie between the US Paperback and the Indonesian cover.

Cover Fever: #8. Divergent by Veronica Roth

Hey all, we have another set of fantastic covers to share and discuss with you. I was in the bookstore the other day, when I noticed that Divergent had another cover update! And also with Divergent being the film that everyone is talking about I thought it would be brilliant to have a look at the covers which had been published for this fantastic book.

                     US Cover                              UK Cover

               ITALIAN Cover                   UK Cover (re-issued)

Rachel: I've never been a huge fan of the US Cover but to be honest I'm not over the moon over any of the other versions either. If I had to choose one I think I like the Italian cover best and I'm not ever sure why.  I usually have a lot to say about a cover, I do love them so, but for some reason the Divergent ones don't seem to inspire much from me.

Rachel's Final Verdict:
The Italian Cover.

Jasprit: I actually love the US cover, when this pretty was released this is the cover that I actually bought, which kind of sucks now, as my covers of Insurgent and Allegiant are the UK ones now, so they don't match. I like the colours that they've used on the cover, and also how the dauntless sign is the focal point of the book. The setting also gives a futuristic sort of vibe, which I really like. The original UK cover I have to admit has a really pretty colour scheme (the entire series does actually), but the girl on the cover isn't really how imagined Tris to be at all, also I find the tag line of the US cover much more eye catching than the UK one. I have no idea what's going on with the Italian cover, is Tris getting ready to go to a club? Also it gives the impression that this book is an erotica of some sort. The new UK cover is quite nice and simple, I was actually wavering in buying a copy, because I really did like it, it isn't a cover which is too overdone, but is quite simple and to the point.

Jasprit's Final Verdict: The US cover for sure!

Cover Fever #7

Hello everyone! Jasprit and I are back with another Cover Fever.  I'm featuring Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. I had major issues with the ending of this series, and I think if I picked it up again the love triangle would annoy me even more, but I always loved the original cover.  The publishers changed the US covers when they released the paperback of Nightshade and it was a huge disappointment to me. I couldn't get the matching cover to the original I had which was much better IMO.  See the bottom of the post for the differences in the original design to the new one they chose and tell me what you think.

     US Cover                             US Paperback

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)   Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)

  Indonesian Cover                    French Cover

Nightshade (Perburuan Takdir)
   Lune de sang (Nightshade, #1)

Jasprit: Changes midway through a series usually make me so mad, especially when I've been a fan of the original cover design and also when my series doesn't match anymore, so I can totally understand Rachel's frustrations. Like Rachel I actually prefer the original US cover, the colours used on the cover are gorgeous and the cover is different to a lot of the covers that you see out there. Whereas the US paperback, I'm not a fan of at all, I dislike the way they've put the character and wolf image together, it looks like they really couldn't be bothered. I quite like the Indonesian cover, it reminds me of Meg Cabot's Abandon cover, I also like the colour too. Whereas I don't find the French cover appealing at all.

Jasprit's Final Verdict: Original US cover for sure!

Rachel:
Love the original US Cover with the pretty girl with wolf eyes and flowers! I completely dislike the US Paperback, and that "green screen" type background. I was so irritated when they switched to this series of covers. *sigh* The Indonesian cover looks like an adult shifter story set in a stripper club, lol! Yes, my imagination is running wild!  The French cover accurately represents the unbearable love triangle within, and I sort of like the wolf eyes in the upper background.

Rachel's Final Verdict:
I love the original US Cover. If they stuck with those through the series, I may have even kept the books even though I was less than happy about the end.

Original Covers (guessing on the 3rd book)

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)  Wolfsbane (Nightshade #2)   Bloodrose - A döntés (Nightshade, #3)

Changed Covers

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)   Wolfsbane (Nightshade, #2)  Bloodrose (Nightshade, #3)
