Blog Tour: Inteview & Giveaway All The Broken Pieces by Cindi Madsen

Hello readers.  Today I'm so excited to be part of the Blog Tour of a book I adoredAll the Broken Pieces by Cindi Madsen.  I thought the story was fresh and original, and a little mind bendy!  Best part of all, there's a swoony romance to satisfy any romance junkie! You can read my review here.  For today's post Cindi agreed to answer some of my pressing questions about writing and super important issues, like Buffy ;)  Got to love a Buffy fan *high fives Cindi*  It's a rule.  Be sure to scroll down after the interview for a chance to win your very own copy of All the Broken Pieces.

Rachel: Cindi, I just adored this story, so thank you for stopping by to answer some of my questions!

Cindi: Yay! Thanks for having me!

Rachel: All the Broken Pieces is such a mind bending mystery.  What gave you the idea for the story?

Cindi: Well, I was trying to think of something that hadn’t been done before, and I wanted to write something in the same vein as classic Gothic mysteries. A sort of wrongness mixed with mystery and romance. So I decided to write a book where the girl was (spoiler) and how that would come about. I think that the teenage years are a time of figuring out who you are, so I thought I’d amp that up with two voices in her head whose personalities completely clashed and how she’d deal with high school with no memory, along with the voices. And of course I wanted a cute boy to help her out, and I liked the idea of them both being broken, but when they get together, they sort of fix each other.

Rachel: Did you do research in memory loss to for this story, and if so, how did it impact the direction of the plot?

Cindi: I did a lot of research on comas, memory loss, how the brain works, and different diseases, including schizophrenia some groundbreaking treatments for Huntington’s disease. They definitely added depth and some unexpected changes to the plot.

Rachel: I love romance when it’s done well, and this one doesn’t disappoint! Ah Spencer! *sigh*. Is it hard to write chemistry filled scenes?

Cindi: Thanks! And the scenes with lots of romantic tension are actually my favorite scenes—to read and to write. It’s harder for me to hold back during those first meetings of my characters because I want the romance to build slowly, but at the same time, I just want to get to write the kissing because it’s so much fun! I’m happy when people tell me they were yelling at the characters to kiss, because it means they feel the chemistry, too :)

Rachel: This is a contemporary romance and mystery, yet your other novel is paranormal romance.  Is it difficult to switch genres, and which is your favorite?

Cindi: I like to kind of go where my mood takes me. I read all kinds of genres, so I like to write in different ones as well. It mostly depends on how the characters form in my head. I will say that the contemporary takes me longer to write because I want to keep the tension high, and in a paranormal if I need tension I can add in an action scene. With contemporary I have to dig deeper. But it also gives me a bigger sense of accomplishment when I finish them. So that’s the long way of saying, I can’t pick. There are good things about both.

Rachel: What do you like most about writing, and what are you working on next?

Cindi: I love when the story takes shape and I see how my characters have grown throughout the story. And of course when I read the kissy kissy scenes and get butterflies. I’ll be revising my adult romantic comedy Cinderella Screwed Me Over and my editor and I are deciding on what YA book to release next. I’ll update my blog and website as soon as I know.

Rachel: How about some this or that questions…? I know you’re a Buffy fan like me, so are you an Angel girl or Spike?

Cindi: Spike came close to winning me over there at the end, but I’ve got to stick with Angel.

Rachel: Buffy or Wonder Woman?
Cindi: Buffy

Rachel: Chocolate or vanilla?
Cindi: Chocolate

Rachel: Bad boy or good boy?
Cindi:I like my fictional boys on the bad side and good boys in real life.

Rachel: E-book or physical Copy
Cindi: I’ve learned the beauty of e-books, but I still love holding the actual book

Rachel: Country Music or Rock?
Cindi: Rock!

Thank you so much, Cindi for stopping by.  I hope everyone picks up a copy of All the Broken Pieces and loves it as much as I did.  I can’t wait for your next story!

Photobucket About ALL THE BROKEN PIECES: What if your life wasn’t your own?

Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar. As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she please the popular group while simultaneously despising them. But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.

Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers. Yet the deeper they dig, the less things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?

Praise for All the Broken Pieces:
"Kept me guessing and frantically flipping the pages. A unique story I couldn't help but fall in love with." -- Nyrae Dawn, author of Charade

"[An] interesting story of a girl who can't remember her early life…Liv's high school relationships, especially her conflicts with the popular girls and her first dealings with romance, ring nicely true. Intriguing."  Kirkus Reviews

About Cindi Madsen: Cindi Madsen sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

Now for the awesome part.  Entangled Teen has graciously provided an e-copy of All The Broken Pieces.  The giveaway is INTERNATIONAL.  The only requirement is that you follow the blog.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the push-pull relationship between Spencer and Liv, but Spencer himself I liked more than I can say.
Spike almost won be over too, but David Boreanaz...umm, I mean, Angel, refused to be defeated.
Great interview!

YES!!! That's exactly the way I like my boys too Cindi! I'm a sucker for the bad boy in a book, but I know that same boy in real life would drive me crazy. It's why books are so much fun:) This book sounds amazing, thanks you guys and Entangled for the giveaway!

Cindi, you awesome person, you. I also am Buffy fan.

And what a great interview, Rachel.

Fave part: "I liked the idea of them both being broken, but when they get together, they sort of fix each other." - I am the same way. I love that in books.

Cannot wait to read this book. I've had my eye on it for a long time now :)
