Showcase Sunday #19

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea. The aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great couple of weeks. We finally had snow over here in the UK this week, not as much as I’d hoped, but it made me wish I was back at school again not for all the endless coursework, but so just so that I could listen to the radio each morning excitedly to see if they would be announcing my school as closed. My sisters the lucky ones as usual were able to do so, whereas I had to trudge into work. But my lovely postman who I’m sure is never happy with the endless parcels he has to deliver to my house, brought me some great books.

All I Ever Wanted by Vikki Wakefield
Everything Left Unsaid by Jessica Davidson
Friday Brown by Vikki Wakefield

A big thank you to Mandee from Vegan YA Nerds for this lovely swap. I had wanted these Aussie lovelies for ages, so I’m hugely grateful to Mandee for sending them to me. *hugs*

Unremembered by Jessica Brody
Torn by David Massey
Dead Romantic by C.J Skuse
Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander
Moonshifted by Cassie Alexander
Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter

Thank you to Chicken House, Macmillan, Cassie Alexander and Hachette UK

A big thank you to Maja from The Nocturnal Library and Cassie Alexander for my copies of Moonshifted and Nightshifted and look they’re personally signed!

Just One Day by Gayle Forman
Radiant (Unearthly #2.5) by Cynthia Hand
The Next Forever by Lisa Burstein

Thank you to Entangled

And I pre-ordered my copy of the gorgeous Just One Day. I have been tempted several times to have a sneak peak, but I just know once I start reading, I won’t be able to stop and I’m meant to be starting this book as part of a group read tomorrow and I can’t wait! Also in preparation for the release of Boundless this week *bites nails* I bought myself a copy of the novella Radiant, the reviews have been mixed for this book, but I'm just happy to be back with the characters after so long!

Over to Rachel to see the goodies she received.

For review:

Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson
Dare to You by Katie McGarry
Devil's Due by Rachel Caine
Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Thank you to Random House Children’s Books, Harlequin, Harlequin UK, Spencer Hill Press, and Netgalley.

Won:

Monstrous Beauty (audio book) by Elizabeth Fama

Bought:

Second Grave on the Right (audio book) by Darynda Jones
Iced (audio book) by Karen Marie Moning
Radiant (Unearthly #2.5) by Cynthia Hand
Torched by Andrea Lynn Colt

Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker
The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher
Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin

I’m thrilled to get Beth’s story in Dare to You, a companion novel to Pushing the Limits, which I adored!  Strands of Bronze and Gold is a Historical Paranormal Romance. Historical romance is not my usual genre but this looked too good to pass up. It’s supposed to be a re-telling of Bluebeard, but I haven’t a clue what that’s really about, other than he killed his wives. Apollyon, need I say more?  I hear we do not have to suffer a cliffhanger in this installment.  Thank the heavens! JLA was going to get a stern talking to if I had to suffer another one so soon after Opal and Deity!

Okay, I was not going to read Iced after the reviews started trickling in, but Jenny over at Supernatural Snark reviewed it, and that led to an email exchange that ultimately convinced me to buy the audio book.  I’m excited to get back into this world again. Be prepared to discuss, Jenny! ;) I’m so excited I won an audio version of Monstrous Beauty from WinterHaven Books!! Thank you lovelies! I probably would’ve never picked this book up to read, but audio books have become a favorite of mine, so I’ll happily listen to it!  Arlene from WinterHaven tells me that it’s an eerily beautiful and creepy story. Can’t wait to liven up my commute with that! The Opportunist is another recommend from Arlene. I’m supposed to read it this week so we can discuss at the coming ALA in Seattle (yes, we’re both going!) next weekend. I hear it’s a hot mess and drama filled, so be ready for my angsty updates on Goodreads! I have a feeling Arlene is going to hear an earful!

If you've posted a Showcase/book haul we'd love to know what you received, so please leave a link in the comments below and we'll be sure to check it out.

  4. AHHH SO MUCH AWESOME! Seriously, you two always have the best book hauls EVER. Jasprit, I love the package you received from Mandee! I recently read Friday Brown and adored it and All I Ever Wanted is one I'm planning to read very soon. Torn looks (and sounds) beautiful and Moonshifted is one series I've been meaning to start for awhile, so I need to get on that soon. I can't WAIT to see what you think of Just One Day, dearest, and is that Perfect Scoundrels? AAHH HALE! I wish he and Kat would just get together already - I am DYING here! ;)

Rachel, I absolutely adored Dare You To, so I can't wait to see what you make of it. I'm sure a contemporary romance fan like you will just love it, especially since I know you really enjoyed Pushing the Limits. I bought Iced forever ago but still need to get to it and The Opportunist is high up on my TBR-List, so I'm curious to see what you think of it. Also, I'm thrilled to see you're continuing the Charley Davidson Series - I definitely need to read that soon - and the cover for Strands of Bronze and Gold is just SO beautiful. I could probably stare at it all day long! ;) Happy Reading, ladies!

  15. Apollyon! I am still waiting for my copy to arrive. I think I should just pack my bags and move over to the US already. ;) Strands of Bronze and Gold sounds great too. I'm not always big on historical either (heck if I know what the Bluebeard story is even about!) but I love the sound of that book. Can't wait to see what you think, Rachel!

Jasprit, you have an equally awesome haul! Just One Day sounds fantastic - I am getting a copy next week hopefully and can't wait. Gayle Forman is one of those authors that I trust to impress each and every time. :) I hope you liked Unremembered too. I know you were excited about that one! I had some mixed thoughts overall, but I liked it well enough. :)

    Enjoy your new books, ladies!

  16. Wow! You have both got some incredible books this week! Seriously, such a brilliant book haul from both of you girls!!!

Jasprit, congrats on getting SIGNED COPIES!!! Eeeeep, I LOVE LOVE LOVE getting a book that is signed, it's so nice of the author to leave a lovely message in her book for you. And I'm planning on buying Dead Romantic soon, so will have to check out your review to see what you thought of it. I'm also a massive Ally Carter fan, so I hope you like Perfect Scoundrels. It looks really good! :D

Rachel, I am insanely jealous that you have Dare You To! Katie McGarry is such a talented author, and I'm sure her latest novel will be just as mind-blowing as her first. And congrats on getting Devil's Due! I love Rachel Caine - her books covers are always so pretty, don't you think? :D

Enjoy all of your new books, ladies. And have a brilliant time at ALA! You're both so lucky! Looking forward to your updates on how it goes. :Dxx

  17. I wasn't really a fan of Unremembered, not because it was particularity bad or anything but because it didn't really bring anything new to the special kids vs evil corporation chase story, imo. Looking forward to read your thoughts on it, though!

Eeep, you got accepted to read Strands of Bronze and Gold! That book is on my list of most anticipated 2013 releases! Hope you like it. ^^

  18. Wow! Awesome hauls guys :) I've heard good things about Just One Day and Nightshifted, and I really need to read Second Grave on the Right because I adored the first!

You ladies always have the best book weeks!

  20. I agree with everything, that everyone has said. You really do have some brilliant hauls on SS.

Jasprit, Isn't the snow lovely. I've been fortunate enough to leave early at work and have snow days at college. I love the whole selection of Aussie parcels you've got! I like the sound of Friday Brown, I've seen that a lot lately. I too received Unremembered, I seriously can't wait to read this book. I looove you signed copies of Nightshifted and Moonshifted! I haven't read Ally Carter's Heist Society novels. Though I love her Gallagher Girls series! Radiant looks gorgeous, I haven't read all the Unearthly series by Cynthia yet. But I must soon! :)

Rachel, I too received Dare to You, I can't wait to see what's in store for Beth! Devil Due, I would say that's a sequel to Devil's Bargain, I haven't read that yet. I remember your review, and you rated quite high, so I will need to read it soon! Oh Apollyon, what a lovely cover. I have to read that series first before I get it! Torched, Iced and Second Grave on the Right sounds brilliant! Happy Reading Rachel.

    Brilliant haul ladies!

  21. A huge haul of books to admire. I see so many goodies up there. I am so curious about that Moonshift series that Maja recommends. I am thrilled to see Second Grave up there as it is one of my fav series. I need to read Iced. I am trying to find the time. I just might have to do the audiobook as well. I have read some great reviews of that Gayle Forman book so I am sure it will be good. Oh gosh love the cover of the new Armentrout book! Happy Reading, girls!
