Showcase Sunday #20

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea. The aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

Hello lovelies, I hope everyone’s had a great week. With the snow causing havoc I’ve had a nice few days off work and got some solid reading done. I was surprised by the amount of books I read in January (19!) And already I have so many favourites for the year. This week was a great book week too my postman trudged through the snow and brought me some great pretties.

Boundless by Cynthia Hand
Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz & Ron Bass
The List by Siobhan Vivian
This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

Thank you Headline

Boundless was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I’m glad to say it didn’t disappoint. After the tumultuous ride this book put me through I was finally be able to write a coherent review which will be up soon. A big thank you to Jodie from Books for Company for the Swap; The list was a book high on my wish list. And thank you Hannah from Booking in Heels for Lucid. Another book high on my wish list that I won thanks to taking part in a Bout of Books challenge. Also thanks to Donna from Book Passion For Life for my copy of Prodigy by Marie Lu (not pictured).

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff
Level 2 by Lenore Applehans
Falling For You by Lisa Schroeder
Dear Cassie by Lisa Burstein
The Rules For Disappearing by Ashley Elston
The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding

Thank you to Disney Book Group and Entangled.

And I couldn’t but help myself but go on a bit of a book splurge with Paper Valentine, Falling for you and Level 2. I’m a huge fan of Schroeder’s books, and her verse is beautiful. But Falling for you isn’t written in verse. And Level 2 is something I wouldn’t normally read, but the reviews have been great so far.

Lets see the books Rachel received.

For Review:

The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington
All He Ever Dreamed by Shannon Stacey

The Rules For Disappearing by Ashley Elston
The Lives We Lost by Megan Crewe
Spellcaster by Claudia Gray
Feral Nights by Cynthia Leitich Smith
Poison by Bridget Zinn

Thank you to Scholastic, Carina Press, Disney Hyperion, HarperTeen, Candlewick Press and Netgalley.

Bought:

Dirty Red by Tarryn Fisher
Boundless by Cynthia Hand
Shadows by Paula Weston
Everbound by Brodi Ashton

I’m so excited about my haul, but I think one book in this haul dominated my mind this week: Dirty Red.  Well, to be more accurate two books: The Opportunist and Dirty Red. I’ve finished Dirty Red and I still can’t get that series out of my head. As you know I read and reviewed The Opportunist last week at the prompting of Arlene over at WinterHaven Books. We continue to exchange emails theorizing and talking about these two books!  I don’t know if obsession is a strong enough word for my feelings, lol! I’ll have my review up for Dirty Red on Sunday, so please READ The Opportunist before so we can gossip! Also, last week at the prompting of Jenny over at Supernatural Snark, I bought the audio version of Iced by Karen Marie Moning. I’ve started listening to it and I already love it which shocks me because it’s an adult novel centering on a fourteen-year old! Jenny and I have been exchanging emails as therapy for our perverse thoughts.

If you posted any sort of book haul this week, we'd love to see what you received, so please leave us a link in the comments below.

Jasprit! You lucky thing! You got a copy of This Is What Happy Looks Like! I'm so excited to read that book. I loved The Statistical Probability. It's one of my fav contemporary books. :)
I'm interested in seeing what you think of Paper Valentine and Level 2. I've heard mixed things about those books, so I haven't been tempted to try them out.

Rachel, I've never heard of The Opportunist and Dirty Red before I saw you reading them on GR. Sounds like a pretty intense book that managed to really capture you're attention. I love those kinds of books, so I must try it out soon. Also, yay for Shadows! I've heard so many great things about that book! :)

Great book hauls, you guys! :)

I just finished The Dead and Buried and it wasn't bad at all. It was exactly what you'd expect from one of Kim Harrington's books. Oh, and of course, I adored Paper Valentine. There's just something so magical about Yovanoff's writing.
I have such a good feeling about The Rules for Disappearing. Hopefully I'm not wrong.
Enjoy!

Jasprit, I'm so excited to see what you think of This is What Happy Looks Like! I really hope it's as good as The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight! *fingers crossed* Also, I hope you enjoy Level 2. It was quite good, although not mind-blowing for me. I desperately need to pick up Lucid soon - I've had it on my shelves since it first released! - and your new e-books look great! I've been on the fence about a few of them, so I'll be looking out for your thoughts to see if I should add them to my shelves or not.

Rachel, I'm so excited you bought Shadows! I loved it and I know Jasprit did too, so I can't wait to see what you think. I also bought Everbound, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I've heard nothing but amazing things about it. Dirty Red also looks fantastic, so I'll definitely have to check out the first book soon.

Happy Reading, ladies! :D
