Weekly Recap #31

Hi everyone, with Rachel and I's crazy work schedules, we miss sharing whats going on with us. We used to have a lot of fun with our Showcase Sunday posts, so thought we'd do something regular on the blog, where we share bookish news and life news in general as a weekly recap! We've decided to link our weekly wrap up's with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated reviewer.

Jasprit:

I had a quiet week for once, work was busy as usual but I was able to get a lot more reading in this week and for once I've also been in the mood for reading more. Other than that I really didn't get up to much, it was a bit of a anti-social week, but I think I just really needed one of those after the busy couple of weeks I had.

WHAT I READ/REVIEWED

Jasprit:
(Click on title for Goodreads link)

The usual books that I go to when I need a pick me up, good old contemporary really haven't been working for me, I ended up DNF'ing Luck of the Draw, despite the positive reviews that I had seen around and Making Up I only ended up rating three stars, it was a bit too predictable in the end for me. Whereas I ended up really enjoying Burn For Me,  I don't typically read Urban Fantasy books, but Burn For Me was everything I could have hoped for. I'll be starting White Hot the second book over the weekend and I can't wait!

BOOKS RECEIVED

I loved Vinesse's debut book Seven Days of You, so I can't wait to see what she has in store for us with her latest book The Summer of Us! And thanks to Nick for putting Hot Asset on my radar, I've loved Layne's books in the past and so I'm excited to know she has a new book out. And it seems a long time coming since Courtney Summers had a new book out, the reviews I've come across so far for Sadie have been really positive!

NEW TO MY TBR
Jasprit
(Click on Book for Goodreads link)

As you probably know I'm a huge fan of books which feature a second chance romances, Five Years From Now sounds exactly like something I would enjoy with our characters meeting up every five years. And I can't believe I hadn't heard about Emergency Contact until now, I think I saw it a few times on my Goodreads feed too. And like Lauren Layne, Christina Lauren have quickly become my go to authors, doesn't Josh and Hazel's guide to dating sound fantastic?

  WHAT I'M WATCHING:

Jasprit

I started Homeland the other day because my sister highly recommended it, but now I'm like seven episodes in and I'm not really feeling it, I don't know if I should continue or start with something else entirely.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK

Jasprit

I got my first run in after a month, the day was horrible as it was raining non-stop, but it actually felt like a good run for once, I'm hoping to get more in the upcoming weeks.

How was your week?

Nice haul of books and a quiet week to read them is always a win in my book. LOL I miss running. Shin splints ruined that for me. I need to get a bike!

Glad Burn for Me worked, I hear that a lot of urban fantasy readers seem to really like the Ilona Andrews books. I've been tempted to try 'em myself! And a new Courtney Summers book- yay! I'm a fan after reading her This Is Not A Test.

Have a nice weekend :)

A chill week just with books sounds good. I love urban fantasy so I am glad you found a book to enjoy in that genre.

Sadie looks really nice, hope it's a good one.

I was obsessed with Homeland. It can be a bit dramatic, but it gets better each season!

I love Christina Lauren and I need to check their new book out!

Christina Lauren's most recent book, Love & Other Words, and Autoboyography solidified my love for them. I totally just went and added Josh & Hazel to my TBR. I am a little jealous you have the new Vinesse. I was a fan of her debut, and hope to read her new book. It sounds great.

Jasprit, I'm sorry to hear that Making Up wasn't as good as its predecessors! I'll have to adjust expectations before diving into it. But I'm thrilled you'll be reading White Hot soon and Emergency Contact also recently made it on my tbr and I'm hoping it lives up to all the hype! Wonderful post, dear, and I hope you find a show you enjoy now that Scandal is over!!

Congrats on your first run! I took several 7 mile walks on my vacation about a month ago but have sadly been feeling fatigued since shortly after my vacation. So doing the laundry is my workout, lol. I guess I gotta accept what I can get! Good luck with your reading next week. Hopefully you have time!

I started Homeland years ago, because it sounded like it was right up my alley. I don't think I made it more than 4-5 episodes before I tuned out. It seemed like the perfect show on paper...Meh.
Hope you enjoy your books this week!

I loved Burn For Me! That entire trilogy is awesome. In fact, Ilona Andrews are awesome and I can't get enough of their books. All their books.... Have a great week! :)

Well done Lauren! don't worry I always find it a mission and a half getting to the gym too, my gym has become really packed lately, so the best time to go is early morning and I hate it!

I had really bad shin splints too a year or so ago, I find that if I do excessive walking sometimes it tends to comeback again, take it easy Laura!

Jasprit said...

Yes this series does seem to be hugely popular amongst my friends on GR too, I think I need to try her Kate Daniels series too, I think you would like them too Greg! And This is Not A test is one of my all time favourite Summers books!

I was so tempted to drop Homeland, but so many people have told me to stick with it, we'll see how it goes!

Jasprit said...

I haven't read Autoboyography yet Sam, I will need to add that to my to read pile soon! I'm hoping I enjoy Vinesse's book just as much as her debut, I hope you're able to get your hands on a copy soon! :)

Thank you Keertana! I miss your face around the blogosphere! I know I can't believe Scandal has finished, its so hard finding a show that lives up to my expectations!

I LOVED Burn For Me and I'm not quite sure why it was such a surprise for me. I recently read my first Christina Lauren and really enjoyed it even if it's not my normal go to genre. That one does sound really good. :)

Have a great week!

I'm sorry your contemps aren't working so well for you. I didn't love the first London Celebrities book but just finished Pretty Face last night and enjoyed that one a lot more. I'm not sure if I'll get to Making Up though. You have lots of great new books and I can't wait to hear what you think of them!

Heidi@Rainy Day Ramblings said...

Definitely stick with Homeland. It actually took me a few seasons to get into it but now it's one of my favourite shows - so I guess it was worth sticking with!
