Bout of Books 6.0 Goals and updates

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to jump start this year by taking part in the Bout of Books read-athon. I took part in several read-athons last year, but never Bout of Books.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team.

For this read-athon I’ve decided to tackle books I’ve been meaning to read for ages. Here is the stack of books that I had in mind.

My goals:

To read at least three books from this stack
To take part in at least three challenges
To take part in one twitter chat

I will be updating my progress with the Bout of Books counter in the side bar, on our Facebook page and on my twitter.

If you’re taking part in this read-athon too, I’d love to know what your goals are. Good luck everyone.

Monday:
Number of pages I've read: 144 (Fever Moon) 150 (The Gathering Dark) (already previously started 25% (approx 100 pages) of The Mad Scientist's Daughter and 83 pages of Live Through This by Mindi Scott)
Total number of pages: 477
Total number of books I've read: 1.5
Books: Fever Moon by Karen Marie Moning
Challenges completed: 1

Total number of pages: 836
Total number of books I've read: 2

Bout of Books Challenge: The 48 page challenge hosted by Booking in Heels

Challenge:

  • Turn to page 48 of your current book, or 48% if you're using an e-reader.
  • Take the first complete sentence on that page and copy it.
  • Now you're going to continue the story! Ignoring the real plot or anything else you know about that book, add four new sentences of your very own. You can morph the plot completely, kill everybody off or go off on a huge tangent - anything goes!

My current read is Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill. (page 48)

Poor kid can’t catch a break, but I suspect he’s so drunk he’s not feeling much of anything at this point...
He swaggers slight to the left and then lands with a loud thump on the clutter of mess on the bed. I take that as my sign to quickly hightail it out of there, I don’t want to be there when he wakes up with a big bump on his head and so many questions that I can’t answer. I run out of the room and weave through the crowded mass of bodies swaying to the bass pumping through the speakers, by the time I make it out of the house I’m completely breathless and I can feel sweat beads forming at the side of  my head. My phone suddenly lets out a cheery tune from the bottom of my bag, but I ignore it, I quickly run off into the night, without a backward glance.

Thursday:
Number of pages I've read: 177 (Dance of Shadows)
Total number of pages: 1182
Total number of books I've read: 2
Books: Fever Moon by Karen Marie Moning and The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo
Challenges completed: 2

Bout of Books Book Spine Poetry challenge hosted by Escape through the Pages

Challenge:
The concept is simple – using books you have on hand, create a poem out of their titles. There is no theme and no set number of books to use, just whatever poem pops into your head and however many books you need to create it.

Can You Keep a Secret? because
I'll Be There so
Send Me a Sign were
Meant to Be my
Starcrossed lover.

Number of pages I've read: 143 (Meant to Be)
Total number of pages: 1325
Total number of books I've read: 3 (I have reached my book goal! woo hoo!)
Books: Fever Moon by Karen Marie Moning, The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo and Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
Challenges completed: 0

Saturday:
Number of pages I've read: 176 (Dance of Shadows)
Total number of pages: 1501
Total number of books I've read: 4 (I have surpassed my book goal!)

Challenge: Name your Book Crack challenge hosted by Bookgoonie

So I want you to reflect and identify your deepest, darkest addictions. What is your Book Crack? What can you NOT SAY NO to? What bookish things make you blissful?

My Book Crack is buying books on their release date, despite having a ton of books in my tbr pile at home already. It’s like I get an odd feeling in my stomach if I don’t by the book on that date, I think I’m most likely scared that all the copies will run out and there will be no more left for me. So it’s kind of satisfying when I buy a copy on the release date, so that I can then take it home and know it will be sitting safely on my bookshelf. The bad thing is sometimes it takes me ages to get to the book, for example I brought Divergent by Veronica Roth on its release date, but didn’t get around to reading it until nearly a year after its release date. Other books which I still have to pick up and brought straight away include I’ll Be There by Holly Goldberg Sloan and Die for Me by Amy Plum.

My favourite section in my bookstore. How can a girl resist?

Oh, I'm interested in hearing what you think of COLD KISS, Jasprit! It's a very unusual book, and one that's not to everyone's taste, but I really liked it for the most part. Same for SHADOW AND BONE, hope you enjoy! I squeaked that one in towards the end of 2012, too. :) Happy reading!

I have books on my shelves that I haven't read yet. Unspoken and Unbecoming of Mara Dryer are part of my to-read books this year. Happy Reading, Jasprit.

Good luck! I'm not doing 'bout of books' but I am doing 'review request january' organised by musings of a bookworm. I'm trying to get through some review copies cause I seem to have loads at the moment! Hope you enjoy your long-awaited reads!

This sounds like a fun read-a-thon, very tempted to take part but probably won't since school starts next week :(

Good luck with it though and you've picked out some really awesome books! May I recommend you start with Unspoken? I absolutely ADORED it and Kami is the most witty, most intelligent protagonist EVER! I'm sure you'll love her as much as I did? Send Me a Sign looks really amazing too and Meant To Be is supposed to be really fun!

I've heard Meant to Be is really good, I'm excited to get my hands on a copy and read it! I really want to read Send Me a Sign too. Good luck with your goals! :)

Aaah, if I were you I'd read Gathering Dark, Fever Moon and Meant To Be. I haven't actually read MTB but I heard it was great! And anything by Moning is sure to be good as well. As for Gathering Dark, if I remember correctly, it's the alternate title for Shadow and Bone. AND SHADOW AND BONE WAS FANTASTIC. SO yeah. =))

Have fun reading, Jasprit!

How fun! I've only done one read-a-thon but it was fun. I loved Cold Kiss, but it's a book a lot of readers didn't connect with.
Best of luck!

At first I thought you were going to read all of those books even though some of them are quite slim, that would still be a hefty challenge. However, I'm sure you'll get through three.

There looks to be some great books there, Jasprit! Happy reading! :)

Oooh, so many great books, Jasprit! Unspoken and The Gathering Dark are two of my faves, so I can't wait to see what you think of those, and I desperately need to get my hands on Fever Moon already! BARRONS!<3 ;) Happy Reading! :D

Good luck Jasprit! I won't be able to take part this time after all but I'll be cheering you on and following your updates! Hope you have a blast :)

I'm participating in this readathon as well! My goal post is going up tomorrow. I've done it the past two times, and it has always been a blast. The Twitter chats are especially awesome, except they go by seriously fast, so I suggest you use something like TweetChat. ;) But you've got a great list of goals here! I think you'll love Shadow & Bone (The Gathering Dark). It's a fabulous fantasy, and it was one of my top of 2012. Meant to Be is such a quick and cute read, that's such a fabulous pick for a readathon! You'll be able to easily speed through that one. 3 books is also a really great goal, Jasprit! I'm sure you'll be able to achieve that.

Good luck Jasprit! I hope to see your updates during the readathon. =)

Ohhh I can't wait to see what you think of Unspoken and The Gathering Dark! They were both 2012 favourites of mine last year and I probably already mentioned this before, but I think you'll be a fan of both! Good luck with this fabulous challenge, Jasprit! :) I know you can accomplish this. :)

Thanks for joining in with the Page 48 Challenge! I hope the read book is as good as your continuation - that's pretty damn good :)

I've had The Gathering Dark on my wishlist for absolutely ages, but heard mixed reviews. I can't wait to see what you think of it.

I'm liking your book spine poem! I had to skip out on that challenge this time around, because all my books are in the flat next door and it is FREEZING outside... but I'm having fun reading everyone else's! :)

Aww, your poem is lovely! :-) Happy reading!

You are a Author's Dream buying books on Release Day. I am that way about the biggies like the The Mortal Instruments & Infernal Devices. It kind of reminds me of what it was like to go to Midnight releases of the Harry Potter books.
