My rating: 2 stars
When reclusive novelist Senna Richards wakes up on her thirty-third birthday, everything has changed. Caged behind an electrical fence, locked in a house in the middle of the snow, Senna is left to decode the clues to find out why she was taken. If she wants her freedom, she has to take a close look at her past. But, her past has a heartbeat... and her kidnapper is nowhere to be found. With her survival hanging by a thread, Senna soon realizes this is a game. A dangerous one. Only the truth can set her free.
My Thoughts:
It pains me to write this review,
because I LOVED Tarryn’s Love Me With
Lies series. It’s one of my all time favorite series, one of the most
memorable for me. While I can’t say Mud Vein was unmemorable, quite the opposite, I can’t stop thinking about
it. The difference is, I wish I could.
My main reason for the low rating is my feelings throughout the story. Mud Vein was not an enjoyable reading experience for me. I did not like Senna for the majority of the story, in fact I wanted to SHAKE her more than a few times! Yes, she had horrible things happen to her, I get that, I think she should have a pass on some of her behavior, but for the most part she was completely selfish. Senna was extended kindness over and over from Isaac and she threw it back on him over and over. Being so self-absorbed she ignored his sufferings and (highlight to see spoiler) never showed she cared to know anything about him. By the time she recognizes this and finally admits she loves Isaac, it’s too little, WAY too late. Love gone wrong, and missed opportunity in a spectacular fashion. By the time I got to the end, I ugly cried. Big time. But it was ugly crying from hurt and FRUSTRATION.
Senna had lots of similarities to Olivia from The Opportunist that I felt she was just another version of her, minus the likable parts.
I felt the need to read quickly to get the story over with, and I just can’t rate a book highly when I feel that way.

I never tried to read this because it never called to me unlike Fisher's Love me with Lies series. I loved that, (tho I haven't the second book, yet! ) its sad that this wasn't good as that. :<
You know how I felt about this one - it was so disappointing to me. I hate that frustrated feeling when reading a book and I was REALLY frustrated with this one! I'm sorry it didn't work out - I hope the next Fisher book makes up for it. ;)
I've been waiting to see your thoughts on this, bc I know you loved the other series so much. I'm sorry you felt so disappointed in Mud Vein. But when you feel so upset while reading a book, it can't be helped.
Thanks for the review!
Ooh, this will be a hard pass from me, then. I understand protecting yourself after bad things have happened to you but to be so selfish and self-absorbed that you throw love and kindness back at someone again and again? No. Sorry about the ugly cry for you at the end!
Well, damn. This cover is SO GORGEOUS. I like it. But yeah. Never ever reading this book :( Summary not for me, and then you say that about the romance. So unfair! Ack. Thank you for sharing though, sweetie. <3 I'm sorry you didn't like this book that much.
Aw man, so sad that it didn't live up to previous, which you loved.
I wasn't a fan of this author's previous series, which I know you loved, so I wasn't planning on picking this up and am glad I steered clear. I don't think this is the sort of heroine I could root for or connect with, so I'm sorry this was a disappointment for you, Rachel. Thanks for such a helpful review, though!
It's really disappointing when you want to love a favourite author's work but you can't force it, and the MC sounds insufferable :(

Oh no! I remember how much you liked the other series, so I'm sorry you were disappointed by this one. What a hugely eye-catching cover, though. But if you don't like the heroine, that' s a pretty hard thing to get past in books like these.

I agree with Carina that this cover is beautiful. It's incredibly striking. BUT I know for sure this book is NOT for me. I can trust your judgement and this is one that would make me ragey, so I will be staying away forever. I'm glad you vetted this for me, but I'm sad you had to go through the frustration!
eap, ew sorry you didn't like this one.
