Showcase Sunday #54

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea. The aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

Hey everyone I hope you've all had a wonderful couple of weeks. It seems like a while since Rachel and I posted a Showcase Sunday post with you. I had been away at Greece and can I just say that this place was absolutely gorgeous, I honestly didn't want to come back and for once in my life I actually have a proper tan! (This never happens with the UK sunshine). Here's a photo of Marathonissi (Turtle) Island that we were able to visit, so pretty right!

Since then we have accumulated many great reads. But instead of overwhelming you with all our books, we thought we'd share just a few of the books we're most excited about. (Click on the books for Goodreads link).

Thank you to Bloomsbury UK, Harper Teen, Simon Pulse and Luna's Library.

I finally have two books which I have been eagerly awaiting for since last year: Ruin and Rising and Heir of Fire. I started Ruin and Rising as soon as I received it, and it has been amazing so far. Its taking all my will power to not start Heir of Fire straight away, I want to read the novellas first, but also I was left utterly ruined last year with Throne of Glass, so I just need to prepare myself a bit more. Just One Night had everything that I had originally needed at the end of Just One Day, so I'm glad that finally know what happened afterwards with Willem and Allyson. No Place to Fall, Magnolia and Top Ten Clues You're Clueless sound like perfect reads for the Summer, my fingers are just itching to dive right in (why can't I read all the amazing books all at once?). And The Darkest Minds was a book that I hadn't heard much about at first, but the reviews have been really good from blogging friends so far.

Over to Rachel and her haul.

Rachel's Books:

Click on book for Goodreads link:

Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) Better Homes and Hauntings Take Me On (Pushing the Limits, #4) Love, in English (LIE, #1)

Thank you to Pocket Books, Harlequin TEEN, and Netgalley!

I didn't get too many books which is good, because I'm always painfully behind with my review copies. I just finished Written in Red and wow, I LOVED it!! (I'll have my review up soon.) I immediately downloaded Murder of Crows both e-Copy and audiobook.  Yes, I know a little extravagant, but I had the Audible credits, and because it's great switching back and forth.  I'm so excited for Better Homes and Hauntings! The synopsis sounds fun and I love horror mixed in with humor, and Molly Harper always has me cracking up.  I was pleasantly surprised when I got approved for Take Me On just recently when I requested it sometime ago, and never heard back.

In other news, I'll be attending:

Vegas, baby!! This is the fourth ALA Conference I've attended, and I'm really excited, as I'm meeting up with my usual partners in book crime, Arlene and Crystal from Winterhaven Books! I'm leaving Thursday.

Greece!? Why didn't you take me with you, Jasprit? D: I would have fit in your suitcase or something. And look at all those books! After hearing so many people getting worked up over Just One Night, I've been meaning to try and pick up Just One Day again. So jealous that you got Top Ten Clues--I got denied. ;( (Will try again though. I WANTS.) The Darkest Minds was really good so I hope you enjoy that one.

My Filipino bloggy friends have been loving Written in Red, so I'm really psyched for that! I really need to read some Katie McGarry as well! I've heard some not-so-good things about Love, In English though. Have fun at ALA, Rahcel! :D

HAVE SO MUCH FUN AT ALA RACHEL! :D

Such tempting pictures you show us, Jasprit :P Also I totally imagined you saying 'proper tan' in your fancy accent.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed Just One Night. I added it to my TBR and am excited to read it but have been putting it off until I feel more prepared. It sounds like such an emotional read.

I totally know what you mean though, I wish I could read ALL THE BOOKS at once. If it was possible I'd already be doing it :P

I am so glad to hear you loved Written in Red as well, Rachel! :D I own a copy and am hoping to read it soonish... :P Everyone is raving about it so I am definitely excited to read it! :D

ALSO YAY for the next Molly Harper book! I cannot wait to see what you think and I am glad I only have to wait 2 more days for it :P

Happy Reading, Ladies!! :D

Yay! I got Heir of Fire too and I'm in the same boat. I want to start it right away (although I already read the novellas), but I'm kind of terrified. These end-of-the-series books are KILLING me. And my sister has Ruin and Rising so once I have the courage, I'll borrow her copy. Such a great haul!

I adored Take Me On - I hope you do too, Rachel!
Ask Again Later is one of my favorite books so far this year - such a fun, funny, and charming book. I hope Top Ten Clues You're Clueless is just as good! :)

Jasprit, I thoroughly enjoyed Magnolia and Ruin & Rising and am very curious to see what you think about No Place to Fall, not to mention The Darkest Minds which I really need to start soon.

Rachel, I picked up Harper's latest off of NG and am looking forward to reading it--hope I have better luck with it than I did with her newer Naked Werewolf books! I loooooved Written in Red as well and Murder of Crows is a fantastic sequel, though I still think Written in Red is the stronger novel. I adore that UF series, though, and Love in English is also another book I really enjoyed. I was completely sucked into it, despite the cheating plot line, and Halle really made it work.

Lovely haul, ladies, and happy reading! :)

Jasprit, not gonna lie, I'm totally jealous that you got to go to Greece. That's definitely one of my dream vacation places. That beach looks absolutely stunning. <3

As for your books, I only have one thing to say: THE DARKEST MINDS. AHHHHH. I'm not sure why it's so underrated, because dang, I am in LOVEE with those books. I can't wait to see what you think!! I want to re-read the first two books of the Grisha trilogy before I pick up Ruin and Rising. I wasn't the biggest fan of the second one, so honestly, I'm just a tad hesitant about picking up the last book... although I probably will eventually, after some of the hype has gone away. I also need to pick up Just One Year, so I can pick up the novella as well.

Rachel, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you think of Take Me On! I'm pretty sure that I'll be buying it soon, but I'm not 100% sure yet, so I'll be waiting for your thoughts on that one. =) Also, I'm so jealous you get to go to ALA! I'll be there in spirit, hopefully. ;)

Lovely haul, you two! I hope you enjoy ALL your amazing books!

Thanks for sharing that photo, Jasprit. I can almost feel the sand and the water.
Rachel I am very interested to see your take on Love in English. If you can handle it, I know in can. Also, I'm super excited to give Better Homes a try!
Enjoy your books, ladies!

Haha is it mean if I said my reaction to the beach photo was "since when does the UK have such pretty beaches?" :P GREECE I'M SO JEALOUS OMG. Sounds amazing, I dream of going there! Especially Santorini.
Just One Night, Ruin and Rising (I hope you're enjoy it, I sped through it so quickly) and The Darkest Minds <3 HOW HAVE YOU NOT GOBBLED UP HEIR OF FIRE? I had like major assignments due and I was like screw this and devoured Heir of Fire in 2 days as soon as it was up on NG. SO GOOD.

Take Me On!!! I have the galley on my Kindle and it's on my June TBR, can't wait to get into it.

Happy reading you guys (:

Jasprit said...

Oh no!! I think I may have to read Heir of Fire first then!

Jasprit said...

Sorry Aimee!! I'm sure that you would have fit as well! Next time hey ;) Good luck with re-requesting Top Ten Clues. And everyone I know seems to have loved The Darkest Minds, I hope I do too!

Jasprit said...

Hahaha I don't have an accent remember! Just One Night was definitely worth the wait Rashika, I hope you end up loving it!

Jasprit said...

I can't wait to meet this guy in The Darkest Minds that everyone seems to love ;) And Jazzy lol you're not going to let me forget that are you? ;)

Jasprit said...

Aneeqah I was exactly the same about Siege and Storm, I ended up loving the first book so much more, but I have my fingers crossed that we will both end up loving Ruin and Rising! And I will be starting The Darkest Minds tomorrow!!! Eekk, Greece was absolutely gorgeous Aneeqah, I hope you get to visit sometime soon!

I remember reading your updates for Heir of Fire Jaz, I know I've totally been slacking in the reading department. Hopefully the next time we speak, I would have read it by then!
