Goodreads Description: Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Wow! That was intense.  I just finished this story and my thoughts and emotions are a jumble.  The phrase on the cover: “Everything is about to change…..”  is totally right!

We pick up the story from where Obsidian left off.  Katy was healed by Daemon after the Arum attack and is now connected to him.  Daemon no longer pushes her away and tries to make her believe that he has always been attracted to her, even before the connection, but she won’t believe it.  Katy is still hurt over the way Daemon treated her when they first met.  So while he pushes, she pulls away because she doesn’t want an attraction born of a physical connection, she wants true love.  So when a new attractive boy, Blake, shows up at school clearly interested in her, Katy decides to give him a chance.  No matter how strong her attraction is to Daemon, she wants a normal relationship.  Daemon, of course, has other plans.  Add to this, Katy finds the weird connection she shares with Daemon isn’t the only thing that’s changed about her since the healing.  She starts moving and breaking things without touching them.

Oh my goodness!  There is so much about this story I can’t say anything about, otherwise it would spoil things!  Ahhhh!!! Let’s just suffice it to say, there are big changes in this installment and I’m happy with the direction things are moving.  The story just got so much more interesting, and the stakes are definitely raised!

If you thought Daemon was a jerk in Obsidian, you are going to find quite the opposite in Onyx.  He did a complete 180.  He’s devoted to changing Katy’s mind and more protective over her than ever.  They really got to know each other in this story and some of the things he did for her were so sweet.   Like making sure Katy had her Thanksgiving dinner, or setting up the Christmas tree with her.

Katy on the other hand was quite a different story.  The whole pushing Daemon away because she didn’t think their attraction was real, was driving me around the bend!  But even more than that, I wanted to strangle her for so many STUPID decisions!  She comes around on both accounts, but not before causing some serious damage.  She totally learned her lesson and her heart was in the right place, but dang woman!  I know this is hard to believe, but in spite of all that, I LOVED this story!  Jennifer L. Armentrout is the queen of steam and she does not disappoint in this one!  Here’s a tempting sample for you:

“Do you have any idea what you do to me?” he asked gruffly.  “I’m not doing anything.”  Daemon shifted his head just enough that our lips brushed once…and then twice before he increased the pressure.  The kiss…it was nothing like the other times, which seemed to be angry and challenging. As if we’d kissed to punish each other.  But this was gentle and soft, feather light.  Infinitely tender.

*dies*

Trust me, there’s more where that came from.

However, this story is more than just kissing and sexual tension.  We get so much information on the infamous DOD, the government agency that polices the Luxen.  We also find out so much about what happened to Katy when Daemon healed her, and the fate of Bethany and Dawson.  I can’t write this review without mentioning the all the great one-liners JLA weaves into the story, she always has you cracking up.  Like all the names Daemon substitutes for Blake, never calling him by his actual name.  Among my favorites were Flake and Bilbo.  I loved that Katy is a book blogger and talked about hating stories with “insta-love” and working up an In My Mailbox post.

This didn’t end on a cliffhanger but it did end on a “wow” moment, and of course I’m dying to see what happens next.  December can’t come soon enough!

Okay, while I'm a HUGE Jennifer Armentrout fan and cannot get enough of her Covenant series, I'm not sure this is the series for me. I read Obsidian and enjoyed it, but Daemon drove me up a wall and while I LOVE that he's different in this one, I can tell Katy will now be the one to frustrate me! JUST LOVE EACH OTHER DAMMIT! ;-) Still, I know I'll be giving this a try because I love the way Jennifer tells a story, even if she drives me batty along the way:)

I have Obsidian to read, but have yet to read it... I need to get round to it asap! Daemon's a jerk in Obsidian? I never would have guessed by EVERYONE fangirling over him! Haha, he must make up for that somewhere to have that fanbase...

Okay, well Katy sounds quite annoying... Oh my Gosh, that teaser?! I'm dying alongside you!<3 Aw, Rachel, you've got me so excited to read Obsidian-- thanks for such a wonderful review! This has got to be one of my favourites.(': <3

You are completely right about Daemon. I thought he was such a jerk in Obsidian. I know he had his reasons, but still. I loved his turn around in Onyx. It turned my frustration way down. I'm glad you enjoyed Onyx. Great review!

This is one of those series' that I'm really far behind on! I have seen nothing but glowing reviews for these books, so I must get started on them!

I also love it when a book is intense and when you put it down you don't know what to think because it had that much on an impact on you. That's what a truly great book does. Thanks for the lovely review! :) xxx

I am so happy to hear that this was a good read for you. I have read several reviews complaining about the same thing you covered the change in Katy and her stupid decisions. I am glad that she learns her lesson. I too adore all the bloggy references. I am excited now to give this book a chance! Thanks Girl!

Haha, yes, there is more than just kissing and sexual tension... but I have to admit, that's my favourite part. ;) It's hard to resist Daemon's not-so-charming charm! :D Lovely review, Rachel. Let's hope Opal is just as entertaining. :)

Oh wow, that quote was hot. :) I'm pleased that this novel isn't mainly focused on sexual tension and gratification, however... Stunning review, Rachel. :) I'm glad that you're really starting to love this series! Hopefully the third book (is there one?) will be just as amazing. :)
